His Grandfather Chose Me But I Chose His Dying Cousin Chapter 03

His Grandfather Chose Me But I Chose His Dying Cousin Chapter 03 (Continue)

Everyone fell silent and turned to look at me, waiting for my answer.

At that moment, Harrison Crawford was suddenly pushed into view.

He did look sickly, so weak that he could not even leave his wheelchair.

Another round of knowing, ambiguous laughter rippled through the crowd.

I was just about to say that Harrison was exactly the man I wanted to marry.

But then I suddenly remembered what Mr. Crawford Sr. had told me.

“Since you chose Harrison, I’ll respect your decision. But don’t tell everyone yet. Once everything is settled, they’ll naturally find out.”

After a moment of hesitation, I swallowed the words back down.

Harrison did not say anything either. He only looked at me quietly.

But there was a trace of disappointment in his eyes.

I understood that Mr. Crawford Sr. had his own concerns.

After all, there were too many Crawfords, and every one of them had their eyes on his fortune.

So I stopped arguing with Evan.

I let them laugh as loudly as they wanted.

Then I turned and left.

On the way home, Lily rode in the same car as me.

She smugly swung her wrist in front of me.

The jewelry glittered so brightly that it nearly hurt my eyes.

“So what if you marry Evan, Clara?” she said. “You’ll never have his heart.”

In other people’s eyes, Lily was a harmless little sweetheart.

But when no one else was around, she showed her claws.

Looking at her, I remembered the scene from my previous life, when I caught her and Evan in bed together.

At the time, she had hidden in Evan’s arms like a frightened little bunny.

Evan had held her tightly, terrified that I might hurt her.

The shock of that scene made me faint on the spot.

Afterward, Mom and Dad sent her overseas for school, and she married a wealthy trust-fund heir who spent most of his time abroad.

Her life turned out far better than mine.

In this life, I had decided to let her and Evan have each other.

I wanted to see what kind of ending she would get.

At that thought, I smiled faintly.

“That’s true. What’s the point of having his body if I can’t have his heart? I hope you grow up quickly and marry him soon.”

“I hope you two live happily ever after.”

For a split second, Lily looked stunned.

Then she arched a brow and smiled.

“I know you’re only pretending not to care. But whether you mean it or not, Evan loves me.”

Some time later, Thanksgiving came around.

Dad asked me to bring Thanksgiving gifts to Mr. Crawford Sr. again.

I had just walked through the gates of the Crawford estate when I ran into Lily, who had not come back to the Bennett house in days.

She was wearing a couture gown and a full set of jewelry.

She looked expensive from head to toe, like a pampered little princess.

When she saw me, she smiled.

“Clara, do you like my dress? And look at all this jewelry. Evan gave it all to me.”

“I told him I didn’t like anything too flashy, but he insisted. He even said I was the only one who deserved things like this.”

I frowned impatiently and tried to avoid her.

But once again, she blocked my way.

“Clara, I just wanted to share my happiness with you. Why are you being so cold?”

“I know you’re jealous of me, but no one can control love.”

As she spoke, she suddenly started crying.

I reached out to move her aside.

But she used the motion to throw herself to the ground and cried even louder.

“Clara, how could you put your hands on me? I’m your sister, after all.”

Just then, Evan arrived.

“Clara, what are you doing?” Evan glared at me. “Are you really bullying your own sister? Do you have any decency at all?”

I looked at him, then at Lily, and laughed despite myself.

“Lily, I didn’t expect you to learn such dirty little tricks at your age.”

A sharp slap cracked through the air.

Evan struck me hard across the face and roared, “Don’t you dare talk about Lily that way.”
