His Grandfather Chose Me But I Chose His Dying Cousin Chapter 08

His Grandfather Chose Me But I Chose His Dying Cousin Chapter 08 (Continue)

A wave of nausea rose in me.

“You must have the wrong person. Isn’t my sister Lily the one you like?”

When he saw me about to leave, he stood up and tried to block my way.

But Lily grabbed him.

“Clara, listen to me. It was all a misunderstanding. You’re the one I love. No one is more important

to me than you.”

“That’s not what you said before. You said if I wanted to marry you, I had to be obedient. You said

that after the wedding, we’d both be free to see other people and stay out of each other’s private

lives.”

“I was joking. How could I ever really treat you that way?”

His face was full of panic and sincerity.

If I had not been reborn, I might have believed him.

When Lily heard that, her tears fell at once.

“Evan, how can you say that? You clearly said you liked me. You said I was prettier and cuter than

Clara. You said you would marry me, and that’s why I…”

“Shut up!” Evan snapped impatiently and slapped her across the face.

It was just as hard as the slap he had given me that day.

Five bright red finger marks appeared on Lily’s face at once.

“You bitch. You were the one who seduced me. If it weren’t for you, why would Clara marry

someone else?”

Even now, he still did not think he had done anything wrong.

In his world, self-reflection seemed to be a word that simply did not exist.

“A scheming girl like you thinks she deserves to marry me?”

So he had known what Lily did that day after all.

He had only pretended not to know.

“How could you ever compare to Clara? Clara is the real Bennett daughter. You’re just adopted. I

was only playing around with you. Did you really think I would marry you?”

Lily’s face turned ashen.

Lily had been adopted by my parents.

In the Bennett family, that had always been a secret no one mentioned.

Mom and Dad treated her like their own daughter.

But she had always tried to compete with me for their love.

She even wanted to fight me over men.

Even so, Mom and Dad had always spoiled her.

And I had always given way to her.

Now that her identity had been exposed in public, the pointing and whispering around us seemed to

cut into Lily like knives.

“I’m not adopted. I’m not.”

“You think I didn’t know?” Evan said contemptuously. “Look at yourself. Your looks, your education, your upbringing. Which part of you looks like the real Bennett daughter?”

“You can’t even hold a candle to Clara, and you still thought you could marry me?”

They kept arguing, but I turned to leave.

Evan rushed forward and grabbed my wrist.

“Clara, don’t go. You saw it yourself. I made everything clear with her. There won’t be anything between us anymore, so you don’t have to worry. Please give me one more chance, okay?”

I pulled my hand free.

“Mr. Evan Crawford, please have some self-respect. I’ll soon be your sister-in-law.”

“Maybe Mr. Crawford thinks that because he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he can have

anything he wants.”

“But there is one thing Mr. Crawford can never get.’

Evan asked anxiously what it was.

“A do-over. There are no do-overs in real life.”

I looked around, then raised my voice.

“I’ll be marrying Harrison very soon. When the time comes, you’re welcome to attend our wedding.”

Evan still wanted to pester me.

But I broke free with force and went back inside.

I locked the front door tightly and forbade anyone from letting him in.

A long time later, the housekeeper came in and told me he had left.

Lily had followed him.

But when they reached the Crawford estate, Evan refused to let her through the door.

“Your father is in the study yelling at her right now,” the housekeeper said.

I only nodded faintly.

None of it had anything to do with me anymore.
