You Kept Me Waiting While Loving Her 1 Chapter 05
My phone wouldn’t stop buzzing.
Messages from Wyatt filled the screen.
[I told you I’d take you when I got back. Where are you going?]
[Where are you taking your mom?]
[Alaia, stop this. What’s the point of being jealous right now?]
[Alaia. Pick up.]
There were over twenty messages in total, marking the most he’d ever texted me all year.
I tapped the screen a few times, putting an end to our four years of affection: [I already told you. We’re done.]
Right after sending it, I blocked his number and turned off my phone.
Noticing I was upset, Mom held my hand tightly. “When you said you broke up the other day, I thought about
it for a long time. If this relationship is wearing you down this much, let it go. Their kind of family is never a
good match for us anyway.”
I knew she’d always been worried about me.
The Blackwells were one of the most powerful families in New York.
The first time Wyatt came to visit my family, the first thing out of his mouth was an offer to buy us a new
house.
I’d said no back then. I didn’t want anything else getting mixed up in our feelings.
Even so, Mom always walked on eggshells around him, afraid any careless word might ruin my lifelong
happiness.
I squeezed her hand and said softly, “The company in San Francisco holds high hopes for me, and they’ve
also promised to help us find a place to stay. Mom, we’re not beneath anyone.”
Watching the ground gradually fade away beneath us, I finally let out a long breath of relief.
I had a peaceful sound sleep all through the flight.
As soon as I turned my phone back on after landing, messages flooded in.
Before I could process anything, a call came in from my junior schoolmate.
“Alaia, where are you? Wyatt’s gone completely crazy looking for you. He even showed up at the university.”
The university? Shouldn’t he be on a plane to Paris with Reese right now?
“I broke up with him.”
She gasped, then lowered her voice. “Was it because of that video? I heard the Blackwells got the account
shut down. Cost them a lot of business.”
I paused. So Wyatt hadn’t been lying about that.
Too bad I didn’t care anymore.
“If he contacts you again, just ignore him.”
I hung up and took my mom to the apartment that the new company had arranged for us.
I was in the middle of unpacking when my phone started vibrating again.
My phone, which had stayed quiet all those years, suddenly blew up the moment I left.
Calls kept pouring in from an unknown number.
I walked out onto the balcony and answered it.
“Alaia! Have you had enough of this? Do you have any idea how long I’ve been looking for you?” Wyatt’s voice came through the line, raw and urgent.
“I told you the other night. We’re done.”
He let out a short, angry laugh. I could hear him breathing harder. “We’re practically engaged already. Stop being so stubborn and petty. I skipped the Paris trip with Reese just to find you. Are you satisfied now?”
He thought ditching the trip with her was some kind of compensation for me, expecting me to be grateful and back down willingly.
But I was exhausted from traveling all day, and my patience was gone. “Who you travel with is none of my business. Do you understand? I’m telling you one last time. We are done.”
