You Kept Me Waiting While Loving Her 1 Chapter 09
Mom still had gauze over her eyes, yet she caught our conversation at once and urged me to treat Axel to a
meal.
I couldn’t turn down her insistence, so I reluctantly walked with Axel toward the hospital exit.
“Alaia, I know I am ten years older than you. Being with me might feel unfair to you. I once planned to give up
after you turned me down, and I thought it over thoroughly.”
“In these two years, I have never met another outstanding girl like you.”
“Let’s just say hypothetically, if you think well of me, you can try to accept my kindness.”
“You have full access to all my resources, connections and wealth. Use them freely to build a better life for
yourself.”
I turned my head and looked at Axel’s face. Behind those gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes were completely
serious.
For the first time, someone told me I could make use of him, take him as my stepping stone, so long as I was
willing to give him a chance.
And he was right. I was past the age where love came before everything else. I would never throw away my
future for love again.
Even if things didn’t work out between us in the end, the resources he could offer were the best support I
could get right now.
I parted my lips, lost for words for a moment.
Noticing my hesitation, he smiled and told me there was no need to rush.
“Alaia!”
A hoarse male voice came from behind me.
It was Wyatt.
I didn’t know how he’d found me, but for a moment, I almost didn’t recognize him.
The once-arrogant young heir now had a face full of stubble and bloodshot eyes.
He charged over and grabbed my wrist, squeezing so hard I thought he might break it.
“So this is why you dumped me. You already found someone to replace me? If you were going to cheat, you
could’ve at least picked someone younger!”
The insult hit hard. I raised my hand and slapped him across the face. “What are you talking about? He’s my
boss!”
He wiped the corner of his mouth, his eyes dripping with sarcasm. “I went to your school and asked around.
You’d already agreed to come to San Francisco a long time ago. Were you cheating on me? Is that why you
came here-to be with him?”
Axel frowned deeply and stepped between us. “Watch your tongue. It’s only natural for Alaia to choose a brighter future.”
Wyatt’s bloodshot eyes locked onto Axel, like he couldn’t process what “brighter future” was supposed to
mean.
“Alaia, come back with me. I’ll pretend none of this ever happened.”
I almost laughed.
In Wyatt’s mind, it was as if I had truly cheated on him, while he acted magnanimous enough to forgive me,
just to show how deeply he loved me.
“Wyatt, leaving aside whether I’m with someone else or not, we ended everything long ago, didn’t we?”
He flinched like I’d stabbed him.
I watched his hand tremble as he reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring I’d already thrown in the
trash.
“Is this still about me not proposing properly? I’m ready now. Let me do it again. Please.”
“I’ve been a mess ever since you left. Alaia, I can’t live without you.”
