Three Years Blind, One Song Broken Chapter 08
Jackson’s hand shook as he called Sloane.
The second she picked up, loud engine noise roared through the speaker.
She sounded cheerful.
“At the track.”
“I’ve already won three races tonight.”
Then she laughed lightly.
“What? Miss me already?”
Jackson closed his eyes briefly and took a sharp breath.
“I’m asking you one time. Were you the one who pulled the doctors out of Mira’s recovery facility?”
“And why did you fake being blind?”
“Why did you frame her?”
Silence stretched across the line for several seconds.
Then Sloane suddenly laughed.
“Jace, what are you talking about?”
“Aren’t we best friends?”
“Why would I frame your wife?”
“Sloane.”
Jackson’s tone dropped even lower.
“I’m giving you one chance to tell me the truth.”
This time, she didn’t bother pretending anymore.
A lazy little laugh drifted through the phone.
“My pregnancy was unstable back then.”
“And the twins were weak.”
“So yeah, I called the doctors back.”
“Besides, you kept saying Mira was healthy. I figured she’d survive without them.”
She paused briefly.
“As for the blindness…”
Her tone turned casual.
“I was scared she’d hurt my babies.”
“I was just protecting my children.”
Something inside Jackson finally exploded.
“So you lied to me? You destroyed her because of a lie?”
“Do you even understand my daughter died?!”
Motorcycles still roared in the background. But Sloane remained completely indifferent.
“Then she died.”
“It just means the kid was unlucky.”
Her voice turned colder.
“And let’s be honest. I only planted ideas in your head.”
“You were the one who actually hurt Mira.”
“If you really loved her, would you’ve waited three years before looking for your own child?”
“You used the whole ‘best friend’ excuse to sleep with me.”
“The person who betrayed her most was always you.”
Before Jackson could answer, the call disconnected.
Something inside Jackson finally broke. He tore through the room destroying everything he could reach.
It went on for a long time.
Eventually, he walked back toward me.
His trembling fingers brushed carefully across my ruined eyes.
But he didn’t say a single word.
That night, I heard he personally dragged Sloane back to the estate.
He froze every account under her name. Transferred every asset belonging to her and the twins back under Vale Holdings.
Then had security tie her up and throw her into the living room.
Jackson kicked her hard enough in the ribs to make her collapse sideways.
Sloane coughed painfully, then laughed anyway.
“What’s the point of hitting me?”
Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.
“You think Mira’s ever forgiving you?”
She tilted her head and smiled cruelly.
“Do you know the doctors ripped her corneas out alive? Afterward they threw them into a trash bin like garbage.”
Even coughing blood, she was still smiling.
“Shut up!”
Jackson stormed toward her and slapped her so hard her head snapped sideways.
“It’s all because of you! If it weren’t for you, my daughter would still be alive!”
He raised his fist again, then suddenly two crying voices interrupted him.
“Daddy! Don’t hurt Mommy!”
“Mommy’s bleeding! Take her to the hospital!”
Jackson looked down.
The twins had wrapped themselves around his legs, sobbing hysterically.
But for the first time—
He didn’t soften.
Not even a little.
Without another word, he ordered security to lock Sloane in the basement wine cellar.
The twins screamed and cried endlessly.
Jackson never looked back once.
Later that night, he finally came to me.
He looked exhausted, like something had hollowed him out from the inside.
His thumb brushed slowly across my cheek.
“What are you thinking about?”
I stayed quiet for a moment before turning my face away from his touch.
“I was thinking…”
My voice came out strangely calm.
“If my daughter were still alive… would she’ve protected me too?”
Jackson froze completely.
Then silently lifted me into his arms and carried me upstairs.
His breathing brushed unevenly against my skin.
When he finally spoke, the words sounded dragged painfully out of him.
“Mimi…”
“We can still have another child.”
A faint smile tugged at my lips.
“Another one?”
“How?”
“You planning to force me again?”
Even without seeing him, I could imagine how pale his face must’ve gone.
Jackson swayed slightly like he’d been physically hit.
“I would never—”
His voice broke apart halfway through.
After a very long silence, he finally whispered,
“Get some rest.”
Then he left quietly.
Outside the bedroom, I could hear the twins crying loudly.
Glass shattered somewhere downstairs.
“Daddy! I want Mommy!”
“Give Mommy back!”
“Caleb’s right! That evil woman inside made you lock Mommy up!”
“Daddy, I hate you!”
Suddenly something slammed violently against the wall.
Then Jackson roared, “Enough!”
“Go back to your rooms!”
After that, silence finally swallowed the house again.
Jackson came back later that afternoon and quietly took my hand, exhaustion weighing down every word he spoke.
“Mimi.”
He sounded almost desperate now.
“I’ll fix everything.”
“Can you trust me one more time?”
I lowered my head slightly.
“No.” My voice was barely above a whisper.
I hated him.
But more than that—I was simply too tired to keep feeling anything at all.
