Alpha Mate Slept With His Sister-in-Law, I Left Chapter 06
Kael stayed in our apartment for two days. He didn’t go out.
On the third day, before dawn, the doorbell rang. He flew to it. Vivienne was at the door, a takeout bag in her hand, worried he hadn’t eaten.
Around her neck was my pendant. The Thorne family heirloom Luna chain. The one she had taken off my neck in front of the whole pack.
The same cloying woody perfume on her, even thicker than yesterday.
He thought of the text she had sent from his phone to Asher. “I have a surprise for him” He thought of Asher’s white face at the doorway of the rehearsal hall.
He yanked the chain off her neck. The metal snapped and tore a thin red line into her throat.
“What are you—”
He didn’t let her finish. He pinned her to the doorframe with one hand on her throat.
Vivienne thrashed and screamed.
“Kael, have you lost it?”
“I’m carrying your child!”
“I’m your rightful Mate.”
Kael let out a short, cold laugh. He let her go and stepped back. He watched her slide down the doorframe to the floor.
“I never planned to make you Luna.” He looked down at her.
She stared up at him.
“You’re pregnant because Helena and Silverfang made a deal. I agreed to play the part because Ironridge needs Silverfang blood to hold the northern alliance. That’s all.”
“Then,” she said, her voice unsteady. “What about our child.”
“Your child,” Kael said. “I have one son. His name is Asher.”
“Kael, please.”
“I let you into my bed. That doesn’t mean I let you carve your name into my front door.”
Color drained out of her face. She sat on the floor for a moment, then asked, very small, like she didn’t believe she was asking it.
“This baby. You don’t want it either.”
Kael didn’t answer.
He went back to the bedroom. From the bottom of the closet he pulled out the cream cashmere cardigan I’d left behind The one he’d pulled off her the night before. He folded it. He put the broken chain in its pocket. He put the cardigan in his bag
He walked out of the apartment. Vivienne was still on the floor. He didn’t look at her.
In the car he called Marcus.
“Mobilize every Ironridge patrol. Push the search to the northern border. Every man we can spare ”
“Alpha.” Marcus paused. “That strips the border defense bare.”
“I don’t care. Wherever she is. Find her and my son and bring them home.”
He hung up. On the inside of his right wrist was another mark from Vivienne’s nails the night before. He scrubbed at it with his eft thumb hard enough to leave a red welt.
It didn’t come off.
