He Never Ran Out of Words—Just for Me Chapter 06

The sight of him made my mind go completely blank.

My first thought was that my eyes were playing tricks on me.

Shouldn’t he be wrapped up in Vivian’s arms right now, driving off into his version of happily ever after?

Why on earth would he travel all this way to a city where he knew absolutely no one?

But what shocked me most was his outfit.

He was wearing the casual blazer I had designed for him years ago.

The light gray textured worsted wool, the precise double-stitching on the cuffs — it was my creation. I spent a month sketching it, hunting through fabric markets for the perfect custom weave.

It was completely unique.

When the piece was finally finished, I had presented it to him, bursting with hope that he’d love it.

Instead, he had taken one careless glance and scoffed.

“I’m a software engineer. I barely leave my desk. Why would I ever wear this?”

“It’s way too flashy. People will laugh at me. My flannel shirts are fine.”

Yet here he was, discarding his usual sloppy attire, wearing it perfectly straight.

But on him, it looked entirely foreign and incredibly awkward.

I stood paralyzed on the sidewalk for several agonizing seconds.

Then he spotted me and rushed over, shattering the silence.

“Hannah! I’ve been looking for you everywhere! How could you just leave without saying a word?”

“I had to beg your coworkers just to get the address to this studio.”

He grabbed my wrist, his voice thick and raspy.

I snapped out of my daze, wrenching my hand out of his grip. “What do you want?”

“Hannah, come home with me. Let’s just go back to the way things were.”

His eyes burned into mine, his hand reaching out again to touch my arm.

I stepped back, leaving his hand hanging uselessly in the air.

He dropped it awkwardly, pressing on.

“I never wanted to get back with Vivian. I only want to be with you.”

I stared at him, utterly speechless. It was laughably absurd.

“Garrett, the entire internet knows you’re in love with Vivian. I walked away so you two could finally be together. Isn’t that what you wanted?”

“No! Hannah, absolutely not!”

He stepped closer, desperate. “Going to help Vivian, spending those days with her… I just needed to make up for the past. I owed her that much.”

“When we first started out, I had nothing. I always carried that guilt.”

“That’s why she eventually left me for someone with money…”

He owed her, so he decided to pay his debt by breaking me.

“Your guilt, your debts, your motives—none of it has anything to do with me,” I cut him off, my voice dead calm.

“The only thing I care about is the fact that you destroyed us.”

“But it’s fine that you’re here. It saves me the trouble of sending the server to Riverwood. I’m divorcing you.”

“Divorce?”

His pupils dilated, his face twisting in pure disbelief.

“Hannah, how can you even say that word?”

“What did I do that was so terrible? You’re punishing me with a divorce over this?”

A cold, bitter laugh escaped my throat.

“Garrett, your biggest flaw is that you genuinely have no idea what you did wrong.”

“I let me make this perfectly clear. You don’t matter to me anymore. I don’t love you.”

“I don’t matter?” Garrett’s eyes flushed bright red, his voice cracking into a sob.

“Seven years, Hannah! How can seven years mean nothing to you?”

“I know you’re furious. I can fix this.”

“Whatever you want, I’ll do it. Just talk to me. Don’t do this.”

I looked at him, delivering every syllable like a hammer blow. “Go find someone else who’s a safe, low-maintenance option to settle down with.”

He froze, the color draining from his face. He knew exactly what that meant. He realized I had heard everything outside that restaurant.

“Hannah, that’s not what I meant. I meant you’re the only one who actually fits into my life.”

“And when Vivian asked me to get back together, I turned her down. She’s already gone back home. I’m never seeing her again.”

I looked past him. “I don’t care, Garrett. I really don’t care anymore.”
