He Took Her To Bali While I Buried My Parents Alone Chapter 04

Landon’s throat moved a few times. Finally he just said, “Elise, are you done throwing a tantrum?”

I didn’t answer.

Because I was done throwing tantrums. That’s why I didn’t dare to anymore.

“No tantrum. I just don’t like you anymore, so I want less contact. Avoid any

misunderstandings.”

Landon’s hand froze in midair. He stared at me like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“Elise, don’t be impulsive!” Tessa grabbed my hand urgently. “You two are so good together. Everyone calls you childhood sweethearts. They’re so jealous!”

“You two… you’re definitely going to end up together!”

“Says who?”

Landon stared at me, then let out a cold laugh and cut in.

“I never had feelings for her anyway.”

He turned to Tessa.

“I already have someone I like.”

I let out a long, deep breath.

He finally said it.

Free from the guilt that had weighed him down for years. He was finally free.

Except… the person he confessed to was obviously Tessa, but for some reason, his eyes were locked on me.

“Congratulations,” I said softly, “Hope you two make it. Seriously. Be happy.”

As I turned away, I thought I saw a furious look in Landon’s eyes.

But I didn’t look back. I just walked forward step by step.

In the days after, Landon and I barely saw each other.

But his relationship with Tessa became the hottest topic in our school circle. People talked about it every day.

One day he got spotted with her at an amusement park. The next day someone caught them kissing under a tree.

Tessa kept texting me, saying Landon only confessed to her to make me jealous, that she was just part of their game.

But I knew the truth.

Even if it started fake, it would turn real.

A month flew by. The night before I left home, Landon announced at dinner that he was in a relationship.

Thomas and Eleanor Randall’s eyes landed on me, not sure what to say. But I was looking at his neck.

He was wearing a cord necklace that Tessa had braided for him.

I’d braided him countless necklaces over the years.

He never wore a single one. Said he didn’t want to show off. Just tossed them into a dusty drawer.

“Yeah, they’re perfect for each other. They’re so happy.”

I smiled at his parents.

“I’m really happy for them too.”

Landon’s fists clenched. His knuckles cracked.

He didn’t say a word. After dinner, he came into my room as I was squatting on the floor packing my suitcase.

“Where’s your locket?”

I paused and looked at my bare neck.

“Gave it back to your parents.”

I said to him.

“If you want to give it to someone else, you’ll have to ask them for it.”

His answer was the door slamming hard.

I sighed, finished packing, and walked into his parents’ room.

I’d already told them everything yesterday.

Landon thought I would go to college with him tomorrow.

But he didn’t know I was leaving for the airport tonight.

“Once you’re abroad, remember to let us know you’re safe,” Eleanor said with a sigh.

“It’s just that Landon wasn’t meant for you. We won’t force it.”

“As long as you’re happy, that’s all your parents would ever want.

I hugged them both tight, smiled, and said goodbye.

Then I picked up my suitcase and quietly walked out the door,

Right before boarding the plane, I sent one last message to the future account.

“Now you two won’t miss those four years.”

And I won’t miss the beautiful life that was meant for me either.

I didn’t notice that the second my message went through, that account vanished into thin air.

Seven hours later, Landon burst through the door. He stared at the empty room and stumbled backward.

“No. No way!”

His parents’ explanations faded into noise. He tried to leave, to chase after me to the airport.

But then a sharp pain exploded inside his skull.

A flood of memories that didn’t belong to him suddenly poured into his brain-
