The Wedding He Skipped Became My Ticket To An Empire Chapter 08

Ethan came running toward me, disheveled, his face full of relief.

“I finally found you When I saw that you had married someone else, my heart nearly stopped.”

“It’s not true, is it? You couldn’t have really married someone else. The Moreau family ignored you for years. Why would they suddenly acknowledge you now? There has to be more to it than that.”

“Our world is full of schemes. And someone like Julian Cross? I heard he took control of the company from his own uncles when he was fifteen. He’s ruthless.”

“Someone at the top like that, still single at thirty? There must be something seriously wrong with him. Don’t marry him just to spite me. You can’t compete with someone like that. He’s a fox.”

Ethan finally noticed the stranger standing behind me. Alarmed, he demanded, “Who is he?”

Julian said calmly, “Someone at the top. A fox.”

His unexpected humor lifted some of the heaviness in my heart.

I turned to Ethan and said quietly, “If you came to pay respects to my grandmother, please do. If you came to give me life advice, I don’t need it.”

Ethan pressed his lips together, hurt flashing in his eyes. “Sophia, are you still blaming me? There’s a reason I couldn’t deliver the heart in time yesterday.”

“I know,” I interrupted. “You lent my grandmother’s custom heart to Chloe for her art exhibition.”

“In your mind, my grandmother’s life didn’t matter as much as Chloe’s exhibition.”

Ethan’s eyes reddened. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know how serious it was. But she was eighty years old. That’s a long life. Can’t you let this one thing go?”

*After the funeral, let’s get our license. My family doesn’t oppose us anymore.”

I laughed in disbelief. “When will you stop being so arrogant, Ethan? I’m already married. We are never getting back together.”

“Sophia, I know you’re not the kind of person who cares about money. You would never agree to a loveless arranged marriage. You’re just trying to hurt me, right?”

His eyes bloodshot, he stepped forward and reached for my shoulder. “We had eight years together Can’t you give me one more chance?”

Julian, who had been standing quietly behind me, stepped in front and blocked Ethan’s hand. His voice was ice cold.

“Ethan, didn’t you hear my wife?”

“Shut up Ethan roared in fury and swung at Julian. Julian easily subdued him, pinning him to the ground.

Ethan struggled and looked up at me in humiliation. “Are you really going to let him humiliate me like this?”

I looked down at him. “You brought this on yourself, Ethan. Don’t come near me again.”

Julian’s lips curved slightly as he subtly increased the pressure on Ethan’s back. “Do you understand?”

The Holloway family ordered Ethan to apologize to me so the Moreau and Cross families would stop attacking their business. Instead, he made things worse.

The families of his groomsmen were all blacklisted by the Moreau and Cross families.

Chloe was sentenced to three years in prison for defamation. Ethan’s trust fund was frozen, and he was kicked out of the Holloway estate.

Sometimes, when I attended business events, I would see him watching me from a distance. But my gaze no longer lingered on him.
