My Husband Built Her the Same Garden Chapter 04
Dominic’s head snapped up. His eyes locked onto mine.
“What did you just say? Divorce?”
“Yes.” My voice was steady.
“I’m making room for your family of three.”
“If you love her so much, why keep her as the other woman?”
A flash of humiliation crossed Jasmine’s face, then she looked at Dominic with barely concealed hope.
“Dominic… what do you say?”
Silence stretched between us.
After a long pause, Dominic turned to Jasmine and murmured, “I’ll handle it.”
Then he grabbed my wrist and led me out of Jasmine Hill Estate.
The silence on the drive home felt heavy.
He gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles turned white.
I stared at the rain streaming down the window.
Neither of us spoke. Not until the car came to an abrupt stop.
The seatbelt bit into my chest. I frowned and turned toward him.
“I won’t get divorced.” He drew a deep breath, then took my hand in both of his.
“Genevieve, what happened with the child was my fault.” His voice was low.
“But you need to understand-when you got pregnant, I really wasn’t ready to be a father.”
I said nothing.
“I couldn’t bear the thought of ending it either,” he went on.
“So I went out drinking. That’s when that night with Jasmine happened.”
“By the time I found out she was pregnant, it was already too late to do anything.”
His palms were warm. Yet all I felt was cold.
“So?” The word came out flat.
Dominic looked at me seriously.
“So I have a responsibility to Jasmine and Lily. But I’m not letting you go either.”
For a second, I thought I had misheard him.
Then a wave of absurdity washed over me.
I suddenly realized how little I recognized the man sitting beside me.
He wanted it all-the wife, the mistress, the family.
The thought made me sick. I yanked my hand back.
I let out a bitter laugh. “You’re disgusting.”
His expression stiffened. Displeasure flashed across his face. But he said nothing more.
On the way back, we all stayed silent.
The next morning, I woke to find the bed beside me already cold.
Dominic had left sometime during the night and never returned.
Instead, I received a text message from Jasmine.
[Back then, you used a bet and a lie to tear Dominic and me apart. So let’s make a bet of our own, Genevieve.]
[This time, let’s see who Dominic believes.]
I frowned, still processing the message, when the bedroom door flew open with a deafening bang. It crashed
against the wall.
“Genevieve!” Dominic stormed into the room. His face was livid.
Before I could react, he seized my shoulders.
“Where are Jasmine and Lily?” The roar shook the room.
Pain shot through my shoulder-the same shoulder that had taken a steel pipe meant for Dominic three years ago.
It had never fully healed, and now he was gripping it without the slightest restraint.
The pain was blinding. My face went ashen.
And then, the meaning behind Jasmine’s text hit me.
I stared him straight in the eye.
“I haven’t laid a finger on them. Dominic, you must think I’m something truly vile.”
His breathing was ragged. Then he let out a cold, mocking laugh.
“Really? You expect me to believe that? You love me more than anyone-don’t think I don’t know that.”
“And because of it, you’re insanely jealous of Jasmine. Jealous enough to have her kidnapped.”
He was trembling with fury. “Listen, if anything happens to her, I’ll never forgive you.”
The room fell silent. He stared at me for several long seconds.
Then he turned around and walked away. Without looking back.
The door slammed shut.
The house became quiet again. So quiet that all I could hear was my own bitter laugh.
Then a sharp pain exploded in my abdomen. I went rigid.
I looked down, my gaze landing on the blood trickling down my legs.
The housekeeper found me and rushed me to Lakeside Medical Center.
When I came to, I learned my second baby was gone.
I shut my eyes. The tears came without warning, slipping silently down my cheeks and into the pillow.
Finally, the tears were gone. All that was left was numbness. And hate.
I picked up my phone and called my assistant, Nate.
I told him to start the divorce proceedings.
Then I sent Dominic a message.
[Let’s make a bet.]
[This time, Ashford Group against Kensington Industries. Let’s see who goes down first.]
