I Signed The Divorce And Never Signed Back In Chapter 09

“No. That’s not possible.”

The blood drained from Jason’s face. His pupils shrank. His hands shook as he gripped the report.

But the expert signature at the bottom told him it was true. He had a low sperm count. He was never going to have biological children.

Kimberly had cheated on him.

Margaret sat on the ground, wailing and clutching her chest.

“You’re lying. You’re just trying to tear my family apart. My son is a real man. He doesn’t have some disease.”

“Where did this lunatic come from?” My mother-in-law showed up.

She stepped around the Harrington family like they were trash on the sidewalk and grabbed my hand.

“Ellie, where are your bodyguards? Are you hurt?”

I squeezed her hand. “I’m fine. They’re close by. They would have come out if anything happened.”

“Good.”

My mother-in-law, usually so elegant and composed, couldn’t hide her disgust at the sight of Jason and Margaret.

“Someone throw these people out.”

“Who do you think you are? My son is the CEO of Harrington Industries.” Margaret got to her feet, her face purple with rage.

She had no idea who she was dealing with. But Jason did. He grabbed his mother, panicked.

“Mom, stop. Let’s just go home.”

It was too late.

His phone rang. His assistant’s voice came through, desperate.

“Mr. Harrington, all of our suppliers just canceled their contracts. We have clients lined up outside demanding refunds. Our stock dropped ten percent.”

“We can’t even make payroll anymore. People are walking out. The company might not…”

He didn’t finish the sentence. He didn’t have to.

Harrington Industries was going under.

A company that had risen from nowhere and shone for four years, an empire built from the ground up, crumbled to dust at a few words from the Cole family.

I didn’t have to think twice about who was behind it. Alexander was never one to let things slide. There was no way he would let Jason Harrington dance around in front of him over and over again.

Jason dropped to his knees, his eyes wild with panic. He stumbled toward me on his knees, reaching for my hands.

“Ellie, you can’t do this to me. How can you be so cruel?”

“Please. For old time’s sake. Tell him to stop. I’m begging you. I can’t lose my company. I’ll have nothing left.”

I stepped back out of his reach. “Jason. When I met you, you had nothing.”

Somewhere along the way, he had forgotten that.

“Get them out of here.”

I waved my hand. The bodyguards came forward and escorted the Harringtons off the property.

My mother-in-law smiled and led me inside. She pulled out a red velvet box. Inside lay a perfect sapphire pendant.

“I heard what happened to your mother’s necklace. I had this made for you. I hope it makes you smile.”

My eyes filled with tears. “Thank you.”

No one bothered me after that.

Kimberly was sentenced to six months of home confinement. She could serve her time after the baby was born.

The Harringtons went into hiding to dodge their debt. Someone said they saw them living in a motel on the edge of town.

But none of that mattered to me anymore.

Seven months later, I gave birth to a daughter.

I named her Serenity.

Because that was all I wanted for her. A long, peaceful, happy life.

The End
