I Caught My Childhood Sweetheart Cheating—I Only Wanted His Money Anyway Chapter 04

When the line connected, I spoke calmly. ‘Chloe Hart really is exactly what you said she was. A complete

idiot.”

Chloe stopped in her tracks.

‘She’s rude, brainless, and absolutely incapable of marrying into any old–money family.”

Her eyes flew wide with shock.

‘Honestly, your original plan was better. Cut her off, erase her from the system, and send her out of Harbor City for good so she can never come back.”

Chloe exploded.

She lunged forward, snatched my phone, and started shouting into it.

“Who the hell do you think you are? Say your name if you’ve got the guts.”

‘I’ll have someone deal with you tonight and make sure you’re driven out of Harbor City forever. You’ll die without even having a grave to be buried in.”

Ethan quickly wrapped an arm around her. “Baby, don’t get upset. She’s just trying to scare you. As long as I’m here, no one can hit you.”

I took my phone back and hit speaker.

The voice on the other end came blasting through like fireworks.

“Ethan Sterling! This is the classless little brat you chose?”

“Don’t forget the Sterling family code. Any descendant or spouse who defies their elders is cast out of the

family immediately.”

Ethan’s pupils dilated.

His throat worked for a long moment before any sound came out.

“…Mom?”

The second he said it, Chloe’s face turned pale.

“What? Th–that was… your mother? I… I just cursed at her. What do I do?”

She reached frantically for the phone again, stumbling over her words.

“That’s not what I meant, ma’am. Please, let me explain…”

But I had already ended the call.

I left her absolutely no room to explain herself.

Ethan hurried to steady Chloe, whose whole body was shaking. ‘Chloe, don’t blame yourself. I know you

didn’t mean it.”

Then he turned toward me, his eyes blazing with anger.

‘Claire Bennett, you’re unbelievably manipulative. You provoked her on purpose and forced her into saying all

that.”

“You were the one saying disgusting things about cutting tendons and ruining her life. Anyone would have

lashed out. None of this is Chloe’s fault.”

Then he turned back to soothe her. ‘Baby, don’t worry. I’ll explain it all to my mom. She’ll understand.”

I let out a cold laugh. ‘She said every word herself. No one forced her mouth open. And why are you so sure

your mother will forgive her?”

It was like I’d ripped his pride wide open.

‘Claire, do you really think humiliating Chloe will make me look at you twice? Dream on.”

Just then, a low roar rolled across the sky.

A violent gust of wind swept over the tarmac, forcing everyone to squint.

A helicopter descended slowly.

Evelyn stepped out in sunglasses and heels, every bit the powerful matriarch.

She walked straight up to Ethan and slapped him so hard it sent him to the ground.

‘Apologize to Claire.”

He fell flat from the force of it.

Then Evelyn turned, face icy, and walked toward Chloe.

Chloe trembled so badly she practically folded in on herself.

Evelyn raised her hand again.

“Mom!” Ethan rushed forward to stop her. “Chloe is pregnant with my child. You can’t hit her.”

‘Pregnant?‘ Evelyn gave a humorless laugh, her eyes full of contempt.

“You bitch. Do you really think a trick like that is enough to get you through the doors of the Sterling family?”

“I’ve seen girls like you my whole life–social climbers, schemers, women who latch on to men and claw their

way up.”

Ethan grabbed her arm tightly and rushed to defend Chloe. ‘Mom, it’s not what you think.”

“Chloe is gentle by nature. Claire set her up and forced her into saying those things. When Chloe visited you

before, wasn’t she perfectly polite?”

Evelyn shot Chloe a look as Chloe put on a pitiful act, then signaled to her assistant with a flick of her fingers.

The assistant stepped forward immediately, opened a tablet, and pulled up the first–class cabin footage.

Everything that had just happened played across the screen.
