Chapter 4
“Are you insane? What are you saying?” Cody dropped the plate in his hands. It shattered against the floor. “Get out. Right now.”
He grabbed Amber’s arm to drag her toward the door.
Tears immediately spilled down her cheeks.
“Why are you yelling at me? You used to be so good to me. I’m pregnant. I’m just scared I’ll have nightmares. The stress isn’t good for the baby.”
Cody froze.
Brenda rushed forward to support Amber. “You child, why didn’t you tell us you were pregnant? Did he scare you just now?”
In that instant, I understood exactly who the father of the baby was.
Amber sobbed softly. “Ever since I got pregnant, I’ve had terrible nightmares. The doctor said it might be because I’m always alone. I just wanted Cody to sit with me. When I was little and afraid of the dark, he was the one who protected me.”
Cody’s face darkened. After a long pause, he turned to me.
“Victoria, she’s pregnant. We can’t bully her. I’ll just sit by the bed. I won’t do anything inappropriate.”
I met his gaze coldly. “If you step into that room tonight, you can kiss the company goodbye.”
“Victoria!” Brenda stood up, pointing a finger at my face. “Don’t let a little money go to your head. This is my house. You’re my son’s wife. Don’t think that just because he treats you well you can lord it over the Miller family.”
“Son, ignore her.” She pulled Cody and Amber toward the bedroom. “The company is marital property anyway. Even if she tries to take it, you’ll get half.”
Amber followed them inside. Before closing the door, she threw me a cryptic smile.
The rest of the Miller family retreated to their rooms.
I glanced at my phone.
The livestream had already surpassed one hundred thousand viewers.
[Oh my God, this is insane.]
[So the influencer Amber is not just a mistress, she’s playing cousin roleplay in front of the wife?]
Comments exploded faster than I could read.
I walked toward the bedroom door, phone in hand.
From inside came the rustle of clothing.
“Miss me, baby?” Amber’s voice was soft and playful.
“You little tease. You’re pregnant. Don’t tempt me,” Cody replied.
“Once I give birth, you’ll divorce Victoria, right?”
“Of course. I’ll say my family pressured me because she couldn’t give me a child. She’ll feel guilty and compensate me. And that birth control you gave me really worked. It’s been this long and Victoria still isn’t pregnant.”
The livestream chat went feral.
People cursed them out in outrage, though many comments were filtered automatically.
I pushed the door open in one swift motion.
The camera captured the two of them tangled together on the bed.
“Smile for the audience,” I said calmly.
