He Chose Her Ten Times, I Left Once Chapter 06

“What?”

Elliot’s pupils constricted at once. His mind went completely blank.

“It was real? How could a fire just break out out of nowhere?”

He had no time to ask more questions.

He shoved Sienna aside and bolted from the cathedral.

By the time he arrived at the psychiatric facility, the fire had already been put out. A body was being carried out under a sheet.

“The DNA confirms it,” one of the staff members said. “It’s Vivian Sterling.”

Elliot stood there, stunned, then asked in a panic, “What about Avery? Where is she?”

The staff member shook his head.

“Someone saw her run into the room, but everything became chaotic after the fire spread. No one knows where she went.”

“As for the cause of the fire, we suspect arson.”

Looking at the charred body in front of him, Elliot staggered.

Avery had rushed out of the gala because she knew her mother was being hurt.

But he had pinned her down, a prisoner to his own ego. He had forced her to apologize to Sienna.

Now that everything had ended like this, he did not know how to face it.

Who had done this?

Just as confusion overwhelmed him, Sienna’s words from earlier suddenly came back to him.

She had said Avery would not come back.

Suspicion began growing wildly in his chest.

When he drove to Sienna’s place, he happened to see her still wearing the wedding gown, twirling in front of the mirror.

She was speaking to the housekeeper with naked triumph.

“The marriage certificate, the wedding. In the end, didn’t they all become mine?”

“From now on, I’m the lawful Mrs. Whitmore. As for Avery, she probably burned to death with her mother. Honestly, good riddance.”

The housekeeper nodded eagerly.

“It’s such a shame your mother died in that drunk-driving crash. If she could see this today, she would be so proud.”

Sienna looked up at the family photo on the wall and smiled in a grotesque way.

“Kill two birds with one stone, and look at the payoff. Now my mother’s last wish has been fulfilled too.”

She was still drowning in the joy of victory when she turned around by chance.

The smile on her face slowly disappeared.

“Elliot…”

Elliot stepped toward her, unable to believe what he had just heard.

“How many lies have you told us?”

Sienna shook her head again and again, trying to defend herself. “Listen to me. I didn’t—”

“You set the fire at the psychiatric facility!” Elliot’s voice suddenly rose. “How could you be that cruel?”

Right then, Charles backhanded her so hard she hit the floor.

“That was my wife and my daughter. How could you?”

Sienna’s head snapped to the side. Tears filled her eyes.

“Dad, I’m your daughter too!”

“They’re dead now. From now on, I’m your only legacy. And I’m the real Mrs. Whitmore now. Isn’t that what you always wanted?”

Charles stamped his foot in fury, unable to believe those words had come from her mouth.

“You ungrateful girl. Shut your mouth!”

The old man clutched his chest, tears streaming down his weathered face.

Beside him, Elliot’s anger sharpened into a cold sneer.

“Mrs. Whitmore? You think I would still keep you by my side?”

“Someone died in that fire. You’re going to pay for it.”

“And I’m telling you right now, if anything happened to Avery, I’ll make sure you answer for it with everything you have.”

Sienna rushed forward, begging in panic.

“Elliot, please don’t let them send me to prison. Please…”

“Let go!”

The next second, Elliot kicked her away hard.

After storming out, he got into his car.

Panic wrapped around him so tightly he could hardly think.

He pressed his fingers against his brow and ordered Graham, “Send people to find Avery right now. I want to see her today.”
