He Delayed Our Wedding 9 Times, I Won’t Wait for the 10th Chapter 08
Lucas froze completely where he stood.
His lips trembled. The fire had gone from his eyes, leaving only a hollow agony as he bowed his head.
“I didn’t mean to… accuse you. I just wanted you to understand me…”
“I can’t.”
I shook my head, my voice tinged with sorrow, “I’ll never understand-not in this lifetime.”
“Lucas, if you truly feel sorry, never bother me again.”
His head jerked up. His red-rimmed eyes locked onto mine, his lips moving soundlessly, forming words that
never came.
I ignored him and turned to leave.
Security footage of Chloe tormenting my mother in the hospital was recovered. It proved, beyond a doubt,
her direct responsibility for my mother’s death.
Chloe panicked. When she saw me, she wept and knelt, pretending to be remorseful.
But I wasn’t a fool. I couldn’t forget the malicious glee on her face as my mother was wheeled away.
She’d mouthed, “Die quickly.”
I’d never forget that.
“Elena, please! I’m still so young-if I go to jail, my life will be ruined! I’ll kowtow to you, repent to your mother. You’re so kind, you’ll forgive me, right!”
Snot and tears streamed down her face as she banged her forehead against the concrete floor with hollow
thuds.
But I wouldn’t let her get anywhere near my mother’s grave. Letting her repent there would only sully the
ground.
“Elena, I’ll give Lucas up to you! I’ll never be with him again. Just spare me-I really don’t want to go to jail, please…”
Hearing Lucas’s name made my stomach churn.
Who cared about him anymore?
Besides, Lucas had already abandoned her.
He hadn’t visited her once since the military police took her away.
He’d grown tired of her, just like he had with his previous eight mistresses-discarded her like trash.
“Reflect on your actions in military prison. When you get out, be a decent person. Stop hurting others.”
Chloe’s face turned ashen. She stared at me fiercely, her lips bleeding from biting down.
Finally, she screamed in fury, “Bitch! You’ll rot in hell! You ruined my life-I’ll never let you get away with this!”
The military police reprimanded her sharply. Her screams faded into helpless sobs.
I felt nothing as I left the military prison.
Lucas stood at the gate, clearly waiting for me.
He’d been lingering around me like a ghost these days.
I frowned and walked in the opposite direction.
“Elena, I need to talk to you. I’ve kept the wedding venue booked-just come back, and I’ll be here forever.”
“I don’t expect you to forgive me now, but I know I was terrible before. After we marry, there will be no one
else. I already apologized for forcing you-I truly love you. I’ve loved you since the first time I saw you.”
The word “love,” spoken by a rapist to his victim, was utterly disgusting.
I suddenly stopped walking. Lucas’s face lit up, thinking I’d changed my mind.
The next second, an off-road truck pulled up-I’d called a cab.
Begging filled Lucas’s eyes.
He knew I was leaving the military base for good.
Tears pooled in his eyes, his voice desperate like never before, “Elena, why won’t you give me one chance?”
I had given him chances-only to be betrayed again and again.
Even killed.
I’d paid enough for that.
The truck pulled away quickly. I rolled down the window, letting the flower-scented wind brush against my
face.
It was spring-everything was blooming.
And I, too, would begin again. With the season as my witness.
