He Knelt and Asked Me to Give My Heart to His Student Chapter 08
The girl across from him gave him a small smile.
“It’s okay. I won’t mark you absent.”
“I saw you feed Ginger this morning, so consider this my thank-you.”
Seventeen-year-old Adrian thought back carefully and remembered that, out of boredom, he really had tossed a strip of
bacon to the school’s stray cat that morning.
Natalie’s beautiful eyes curved as she held out her hand to him.
“Can I ask what’s bothering you? Why are you sitting up here by yourself?”
At those words, Adrian jerked awake, drenched in sweat.
If she hadn’t shown up that night twelve years ago, he probably would have left this world for good.
He had grown up in a home where his parents were always at odds, and his very existence seemed to spark one
argument after another.
He had been sick of that meaningless life and had been ready to end it when she appeared.
Back then, Natalie had been the only light in his world.
He had lit up the whole city with fireworks for her on the night after graduation.
When the car accident came, he had shielded her beneath him without a second thought.
When his parents opposed them, he had given up his place as the Carlisle family heir and run away with her to get
legally married abroad.
Everyone who knew them knew Adrian loved Natalie Brooks enough to throw his life away for her.
So when had that changed?
He didn’t remember.
All he knew was that one day, being with Natalie had suddenly started to feel boring.
Talking felt boring. Holding hands felt boring. Even kissing her felt boring.
After hearing him out, one of his friends had laughed and offered an explanation.
That’s called the seven-year itch.”
“You’ve been with her too long. The novelty wears off. Of course it feels dull.”
“Want me to set you up with someone?”
He had refused without hesitation.
No matter what, he wasn’t going to do something that would betray Natalie.
