He Marked Me, Then Forced Me to Bow to His Mistress Chapter 05

Both Grayson and I knew the truth.

Years ago,

he had punished himself by driving a silver dagger into his own abdomen-twice.

The blade missed its mark, but only just.

Afterward, the healers had given their verdict.

The chances of him ever fathering a child were slim to none.

When I discovered I was pregnant, I laughed and cried at the same time.

I had believed it was a blessing from The Moon Goddess.

I folded the pregnancy report and tucked it carefully into my pocket, planning to tell him after the ceremony ended.

I’d pictured that moment so many times. The shock on his face turning into pure joy.

I imagined us putting together a nursery, shopping for baby clothes, and debating names for hours.

I imagined our pup taking those first wobbly steps, running into our arms, and calling us Mom and Dad.

I had imagined all of it. Everything. Everything except this.

Reality hit me harder than I ever could have imagined.

His betrayal had arrived before our child ever had the chance to.

And now, I was giving it all back to him.

The child. And those twenty-eight ridiculous years along with it.

The room erupted into chaos.

Grayson moved so quickly that he knocked over the coffee table.

He practically collapsed to his knees beside me.

The blood pooling beneath me kept spreading, soaking the carpet crimson.

His mouth opened and closed soundlessly. His entire body shook.

The hand he reached toward me trembled in midair, too afraid to touch me.

His eyes were bloodshot.

“I didn’t know…” His voice cracked. “I swear I didn’t know…”

“Layla… our child… Our child…”

His words dissolved into incoherent muttering.

“A healer-get a healer! Someone call the healer!”

He scrambled to pull out his phone.

But just as he dialed the emergency number, another hand snatched the phone away.

The call was disconnected. The device was powered off.

Grayson looked up, his eyes blazing crimson.

Daisy stood there utterly unafraid.

“Are you looking to die?” he snarled.

“Alpha King, did you forget?” Her voice stayed calm. “I’ve had emergency training. I can help.”

For two seconds, Grayson hesitated.

Then desperation overtook reason.

Like a drowning man clutching a lifeline, he immediately shifted aside to make room for her.

Daisy crouched next to me.

A cold, venomous gleam flashed through her eyes.

She pretended to examine me.

Then her sharp acrylic nails dug into my abdomen. Hard.

Again and again. She pressed down with brutal force.

Pain tore through me. My vision went dark. I couldn’t even make a sound.

The hot blood continued flowing beneath me. It was getting harder and harder to breathe.

By my ear, her venomous whisper slithered in.

“One bastard isn’t enough.” Her lips twisted. “I’d much rather see two bodies-mother and child.”

Then she abruptly pushed me away and stood up.

She shook her head and sighed. “Luna Queen, I don’t know what to do with you anymore.”

She gestured toward the blood-covered floor.

“With this much blood, a normal person would be dead by now.”

“Do you really think everyone here is stupid?”

Grayson immediately grabbed her wrist.

“What are you talking about?”

Daisy sighed as if she were reluctant to expose the truth.

“Alpha King, you’ve been deceived.”

“I checked it. She was never pregnant. She’s perfectly healthy.”

“This whole dying act is fake.” She glanced down at me.

“Who knows how many blood packs she’s hiding under her clothes?”

Grayson looked at her. Then at me. The warmth vanished from his face.

His voice turned cold. “Fake?”

Daisy linked her arm through his and waved a dismissive hand.

“Forget it.” She smiled, acting like a generous saint.

“Luna Queen went to all this trouble just to get out of apologizing to me.”

“I’m willing to let it go.”

“Let’s leave.”

She leaned against him.

“Once there isn’t an audience anymore, she won’t have a reason to keep acting. She’ll be perfectly fine.”

I gathered the last of my strength. My fingers closed around Grayson’s pant leg.

“Hospital…” The word barely escaped my lips. “Please take me to the hospital…”

Grayson crouched down.

For a moment, hope flickered inside me.

He took my hand and gave me a warm, patient smile.

One finger at a time, he pried my hand away from him.

“Layla.” His voice was calm. “You’ve disappointed me.”

“If you love putting on a show so much, then stay here and perform to your heart’s content.”

He stood. Wrapped an arm around Daisy’s shoulders. And walked away.

I watched them leave through eyes clouded with despair.

The door closed behind them.

I collapsed completely onto the floor.

The last twenty-eight years flashed before my eyes like a dying dream.

Every sacrifice. Every promise. Every memory. In the end, it all dissolved into nothing-like bubbles vanishing

into thin air.

A tear slid down my temple.

Just before the darkness took me completely, the door to the private room burst open.

A crowd rushed inside. And through the haze, I heard a frantic roar.

“Save her-now! Hurry!”
