I Signed The Divorce And Never Signed Back In Chapter 05
“Alex…”
Jason clamped his hand over my mouth before I could finish.
He hissed through his teeth. “Don’t ruin this for me. If the Harrington Cole deal falls through, there’s no chance of us getting back together. Do you understand?”
I bit down on his hand until I tasted blood. He yanked his hand back with a curse.
“Jesus. Are you part dog?”
“Kimberly, keep an eye on her. I’m going to talk to Cole.”
Kimberly hurried over and shoved me into the nearest room.
“Don’t worry, baby. I’ll keep her quiet.”
The door clicked shut, and Kimberly’s face changed.
She grabbed my chin hard.
“Did you ever think you’d end up like this, Ellie? You used to look down on me. You used to act like you were so much better than me. And yet Jason still chose me in the end.”
I stared at her coldly. It hurt more than I wanted to admit.
There was a long scar on my shoulder. I got it protecting Kimberly from her stepfather when he came at her with a broken bottle.
“What’s with that look?” Kimberly frowned and kicked me.
More blood soaked through my clothes. I dug my nails into my palm and begged.
“Please. Call an ambulance. My baby won’t make it.”
Kimberly’s face went still. Her eyes dropped to the blood on the floor.
She could see it now. This wasn’t an act.
“So you really are pregnant.” Kimberly’s voice softened slightly. “Looks like you really did get remarried.”
“Fine. If Jason closes the deal with Cole, I’ll take you to the hospital.”
“But I’m curious, Ellie. What kind of guy did you end up with? Judging by what you’re wearing, he can’t have much money. A grocery store cashier? A security guard?”
Kimberly smiled, glowing with victory.
I didn’t bother answering. My clothes were custom made. Of course she couldn’t tell.
Meanwhile, the so-called security guard had just won the estate for thirty million dollars.
He scanned the auction hall, looking for me.
Jason walked up to him with two glasses of red wine.
“Congratulations on your winning bid. I’m Jason Harrington. I was wondering if you’d be open to discussing a potential partnership.”
“Harrington?” Alexander Cole didn’t take the wine. His face was all business. “Never heard of it. I’m looking for my wife. I don’t have time.”
“Your wife didn’t come with you?”
Something cold slid down Jason’s spine.
Alexander didn’t answer. He didn’t even look at him.
Then his eyes caught something on the carpet in the hallway. A smear of red leading toward the back.
His heart stopped. He walked toward it without a word.
“Mr. Cole.” Jason hurried after him, shoving a business proposal in his face. “Just take a look. I promise this project would make both of us a lot of money.”
“Get out of my way.” Alexander shoved him aside and followed the blood.
Drops of red. All the way to a closed door.
Fear wrapped around his chest like a vice.
“Ellie!”
He lifted his leg and kicked the door open.
The door slammed into Kimberly’s back. She hit the floor with a gasp.
