My Husband Built Her the Same Garden Chapter 07

I was in my office, listening to Nate’s report.

“Kensington moved fast. Jasmine’s already on her way to the airport-escorted. She’s being sent abroad.”

I nodded, somewhat surprised.

I hadn’t expected him to cut her off so cleanly. But what did it have to do with me?

The divorce papers were already prepared. I picked them up and handed them to Nate.

“Deliver these to Kensington Industries.”

Nate had just reached for them when the office door swung open.

I looked up. Dominic stood in the doorway, his clothes rumpled, his chest heaving.

Nate went still, looking awkward.

I glanced at him. “You can leave.”

As if granted a pardon, he hurried out and shut the door behind him.

Silence settled over the office. Dominic stared at me.

I slid the divorce papers across the desk. “Sign them.”

He didn’t move.

I went on, patient and cold.

“Don’t worry-I’m not after a single cent of Kensington money. Everything’s drawn up according to our prenup.”

“If you’re concerned, have your legal team take a look. Or…”

“Genevieve.” His voice was hoarse. “I’m not getting divorced.”

That finally made me look up. But there wasn’t a trace of warmth left in my eyes.

“That’s not up to you.”

“If you won’t sign, fine-we’ll settle it in court. Ashford Group’s legal team can hold its own.”

“The evidence of your affair is all there. Even if this goes to trial, Dominic, you’re the one who’ll lose.”

The color bled from his face. He lowered his head.

“I’m sorry. Genevieve, I’m so sorry. I was wrong.”

“I never should have gotten involved with another woman during our marriage.”

And I never should have accused you before the kidnapping was properly investigated He came around the desk and stopped in front of me, then reached for my hand, almost timidly “It’s all my fault. I swear I’ll never do it again. Please forgive me.”

I looked at him, then pulled my hand free.

“No. Either sign, or wait for the lawsuit.”

“As for your apologies and confessions-I don’t want to hear a single word.”

His hand hung frozen in the air. His face was ashen.

For perhaps the first time in his life, Dominic-the powerful CEO, the man who controlled Kensington Industries-looked genuinely stripped of all pride.

“Genevieve.” His voice cracked. “Please. Just one chance.”

“I’ll prove it. I’ll spend the rest of my life loving only you.”

I found it almost laughable.

He’d said the exact same thing five years ago-after Jasmine dumped him.

Back then, he had sworn he would only love me.

And what happened? The moment his first love came back, he ran straight to her. He even had a child with her.

In the end, I was the fool. The complete fool. So I rejected him without hesitation.

“I don’t believe a single word out of your mouth. You’re totally a liar.”

Pain flashed across his face.

“I know words are useless now.” He took a slow breath.

“I’ve already sent Jasmine abroad. I picked some random country-I don’t even know where.”

“I’ve cut off every way she can reach me. What you’re afraid of will never happen again.”

I said nothing. He mistook my silence for hope-a flicker of anticipation crossed his face.

Then I opened a folder and slid a document toward him. “Here. Take a look.”

He frowned, picking it up. The confusion lasted only a second-then he saw what it was.

Medical records. Confirming a miscarriage.

The color drained from his face instantly. His entire body trembled.

He stared at the paper, then at me, disbelief flooding his eyes.

His lips moved, but for a long moment no sound came out.

Finally, he managed to whisper, “The baby… you miscarried?”
