My Swiss Knife Her Scar His Wedding Day Chapter 03

Grant started mentioning Ariana all the time.

First, he said she was cute and sweet. Then, that she was pitiful, living under someone else’s roof. Then,

“Paige, stop picking on Ariana.”

I wanted to talk to him, but it was the anniversary of Mom and the twins’ deaths. I had to focus on the

memorial.

When I came back from the cemetery, I saw something I’ll never forget.

Grant and Ariana. Naked. Tangled in white sheets.

“Aw, Grant, why didn’t you go pay respects to your future mother-in-law today?”

“Mother-in-law? Some hick like that? If I’m picking a family, it’s yours…”

My ears rang. I lost it. I stormed in, and my hand came down.

The blade cut across Ariana’s perfect face. Her scream-God, I still love that sound.

The judge wanted to go easy on me because I was a victim of cheating. Give me probation.

But Grant hired the best lawyers, bribed witnesses and got me three years of hard time.

Time flies. Seven more years have

I let out a breath and looked at Grant in front of me.

Money’s great. Time didn’t touch this beautiful man.

But it gave me cracked hands, a choppy haircut I can tuck behind my ears, and grease that never leaves

my nail beds.

I pushed the Centurion Card back.

“No thanks. I’m good. I eat, I sleep, I’m free. I don’t steal. I work with my hands. I’m nobody special, but I

don’t have any big troubles either.”

Grant kept his hand out.

“Take it. Call it… compensation. You take the money, you let go of the anger. Then we’re square.”

I raised an eyebrow. The proud Grant Bennett had learned to offer compensation. He used to never bow

his head.

“No need. I saved you because you were my boyfriend back then. I did time for assault because that’s

the law. We don’t owe each other anything.”

Grant’s fists clenched. His eyes bored into me, like he was checking if I was really Paige.

Finally, he lowered his head. Something glittered at the corner of his eye.

“Paige… you feel like a stranger to me.”

I glanced at the clock on the wall.

“Haven’t seen each other in years. Yeah, a little strange.”

“Back then… I got carried away.” His voice cracked. “All these years, I kept thinking-if you hadn’t snapped and gone after her, I would’ve married you out of guilt. Treated you twice as good…”

I was quiet for a long time. The clock ticked. Silence stretched.

“Everyone’s got their own path.” I pulled a lollipop from my pocket, unwrapped it, and stuck it in my

mouth. “You made your choices. Don’t look back.”

“You-”

He choked on my simple words. Finally, he snapped, “You haven’t changed one bit. Still a stubborn piece

of shit.”

I nodded happily. “The neighbors all say I’m hardheaded.”

“Paige!”

Hearing him say my name like that stopped me cold. His voice was the same as always.

For a second, I was somewhere else.

Seeing me pause, he softened.

“If you won’t take my money, then let me talk to your dad for you. You didn’t know, did you? He’s got terminal pancreatic cancer. There’s nothing they can do. He doesn’t have long.”

“Patch things up with him now, and you’ll get your share of the inheritance. Enough to last you the rest

of your life.”

“Really?” I smiled. “He finally got what he deserved.”

After I brushed him off a few more times, Grant grabbed my arm and tried to pull me into his car.

“Paige, stop pretending! Look at yourself! Living in some dark rental, doing the dirtiest repair work, eating frozen dinners made with garbage oil, getting excited over a three-cent hot sauce packet.”

“You think this look of yours is cool? Special? You think it moves people? You’re just a

bottom-of-the-barrel mechanic. The lowest of the low.”

I looked down at myself-coveralls covered in grime, hair in a messy ponytail, probably dirt on my face. I

honestly replied, “It’s not that bad. At least my face is clean. Unlike some people’s…”

Grant turned red and jumped like he’d been stepped on.

“Ariana got surgery! She’s fully repaired. There are scars, but makeup covers them! And you-you reek of grease Your hands feel like sandpaper. What man would want you?”

He got so worked up he started hitting me with his Hermès bag.

Then the glass door squeaked open again.

Two kids-a boy and a girl-charged in like little rockets.
