My Swiss Knife Her Scar His Wedding Day Chapter 05

As I left the station, a light rain started.

It wasn’t much, but my lungs were damaged. I couldn’t risk catching a chill.

I called my husband to pick me up.

No sooner had I hung up than a car pulled right in front of me. The tires splashed muddy water all over

Whatever. My coveralls were already filthy. I brushed myself off and started walking the other way.

But the car turned and blocked me again.

The window rolled down.

Ariana.

Ten years since I’d seen her. She’d changed a lot.

She was always flashy, but after I cut her, even after surgery, you could still see faint scars. She wore big sunglasses that covered most of her face. Her chin was pointy, her skin almost transparent. Expensive rings

glinted on her fingers.

She looked like a spoiled little princess.

Next to her, my oily coveralls looked even worse.

“Long time no see, Paige.”

Her voice was low, but you could hear the knife in it.

I nodded. “Long time. You here to pick up Grant’s card? The cops are waiting.”

She ignored that, took off her sunglasses, and smiled. A knife smile.

“Grant tells me you’re a mechanic now. Married some other woman’s leftovers. Popped out two mediocre kids. Wow. No wonder you’re so thirsty for a man and his money.”

She came at me hard. I stepped back.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Your ears didn’t catch that? That’s okay. Your brain will.” Her eyes were full of venom. “You’re so pathetic you set up a whole trap just to get your ex back? Paige, you’re pathetic.”

I sighed.

“An old friend stopped by. We shot the breeze while I fixed his car. I talk to all my customers like that.

Not just him.”

Ariana sneered.

“Yeah? And every customer you talk to goes home and picks a fight with his wife? Don’t play dumb, Paige. I know exactly what you’re up to.”

“You’re using whatever little bit of feeling Grant’s still got for you. Playing all poor and pitiful to guilt him into handing over cash.”

:And then you hand the card back. Oh, that’s a nice little move. So money’s not enough for you. You want more. You’re so damn greedy, Paige.”

my feet.

She looked me up and down-my clothes, my worn-out sneakers-and spit on the ground near

“Take a good look in the mirror. A middle-aged woman rougher than a man. You really think fixing his car will get you back on top? I’m telling you, you’re dreaming.”

Grant had said something similar.

Those two really were made for each other.

Ariana had clearly spent years studying his weaknesses.

I spaced out for a second, and she took it as me being speechless. She got louder, sharper.

“Give up, Paige. You and your trashy mother-born losers to people like us. My mother snapped her fingers and took your mother’s life and your sisters with it.”

“I cry a few tears, and Grant pays off witnesses to lock you up and give you a felony record for life.”

“Hell, not just you. You’ve got two little brats? They’ll never escape having a convict for a mother. And that idiot father of yours? Same as you-dumb. Mom and I played him like a fiddle. You know how he got cancer? Mom’s been taking such good care of him for years.”
