Plato?No Thanks Chapter 02

Sophie: “…”

She looked at Liam, then back at me.

With the unspoken chemistry we’d built since childhood, she instantly got it.

But for once, Sophie didn’t jump in as my wingwoman.

Instead, she got serious.

“Noah says his best friend is cold as ice and basically has zero interest in that kind of thing.

He’s been single for 27 years. Still a… you know. You sure about this?”

Plato?

That just made it more interesting.

For the rest of the wedding reception, I kept talking to Liam nonstop, even accidentally brushing his hand, his arm, his shoulder every chance I got…

After it ended, I acted cute and made him drive me home.

The second I got inside, I started texting him like crazy.

【Honey, my head feels kind of dizzy. Could you please stop spinning around inside my brain?】

Him: 【Picture】

【Ordered you some hot honey water.】

【Honey, my body feels so hot. Are you cold? Can I cuddle you?】

Him: 【You might have a fever. Go take something for it.】

【Sweetheart, I think I’m losing my hearing. Can you call me?】

He sent me a voice message—just two short words:

“No.”

His voice was cold, but it made my imagination run wild.

I listened to it on repeat, fantasizing, my cheeks refusing to go flat.

Even when Liam was busy with work and replied slowly, I didn’t care.

As long as I was having fun, that was all that mattered.

But now, looking back… maybe he replied slowly because he found me annoying.

After I took a taxi home, Sophie called.

“I want a divorce!”

“…”, I pinched the bridge of my nose. “And this time, why?”

“He doesn’t love me anymore.”

This was already the third time she’d said that since they got married.

And every excuse was so… like, obviously just showing off.

“He’s literally glued to you 24/7, kissing you, hugging you, whispering cringey sweet nothings—how is that not love?!”

Sophie wasn’t having it. “I don’t care. Come stay at my place, or I’ll stay at yours. Actually, screw it—let’s just go to a bar and drink.”

“…”

Just say you want to drink, damn.

When I got to the bar, I realized it wasn’t just Sophie.

Old college friends, club members—heck, even Noah, the nearly-divorced man himself, was there.

I’d been set up.

I’m not really a bar person, but Sophie is. And she loves dragging me along.

She really went out of her way to trick me into coming.

I stayed in a corner the whole time, watching the chaos unfold.

Come to think of it, last time I was at a bar, Liam was there too.

At first, I hadn’t wanted to go.

But Sophie promised that if I showed up, she’d have Noah bring his bestie.

I said yes in a heartbeat and even carefully picked out a little slip dress—determined to make his eyes pop. Twice.

The second I saw Liam, I stuck to him like a GPS-guided missile.

“Honey, what a coincidence.”

Liam glanced at me, took a sip of his drink, and gave a quiet “Mm.”

I flipped my hair, all smiles, and linked my arm through his, tilting my face up toward him.

“Why so cold? Got another honey on your mind or something?”

Liam: “No.”

“Honey, I went to the doctor yesterday.”

Liam actually gave me a once-over, frowning slightly. “Are you sick?”

I nodded like a bobblehead. “Yeah! I’ve been sleeping terribly lately. The doctor said I need to sleep in your arms. Is that okay?”

“…”, Liam used one finger to push my forehead away.

“My arms aren’t comfortable to sleep on. I suggest you try a bed.”

No matter how I flirted, he was like an iceberg—totally unmoved.

But back then, I was so focused on my goal that I didn’t notice his mood or his deliberate distance.

Can’t Plato be cured?

My heart felt heavy. I picked up my drink and took a sip.

Maybe he was already sick of me by then. Thought I was a total pest.
