The Comments Called Me Ruined and I Called Bluff Chapter 09
The phone call from Harvey was only the beginning.
The next day, a bouquet appeared at the front door of Dixon Manor.
The card attached read: [Nicole, I don’t know what’s going on with you, but I want to see you.]
I told the maid to throw them out.
On the third day, the company’s front desk received a package.
Inside was a necklace accompanied by a handwritten note: [Happy early birthday. —Harvey]
I didn’t even bother opening it before having my assistant return it to the sender.
On the fourth day.
When Sadie came home from school, the look on her face wasn’t right.
“What’s wrong?”
She threw her backpack onto the couch, visibly irritated. “Some guy cornered me outside the school gates! He asked if you changed your number! Then he said whatever is going on between you two isn’t something you can just end on a whim!”
The more she spoke, the angrier she got, “He actually told me, ‘Tell your sister I’m not giving up’! It was so disgusting!”
My expression grew cold.
Harassing me was one thing, but tracking down my sister crossed the line.
[This guy is insane! Showing up at Sadie’s school to ambush her!]
[When Cyrus finds out about this, someone’s going to end up dead.]
Sure enough. When Cyrus came home that night and heard what had happened, the air around him turned instantly cold.
“He cornered Sadie at school?”
“Yeah.” Sadie muttered, shrinking her shoulders slightly, “Cyrus, don’t look at me like that. It’s kind of terrifying.”
Cyrus didn’t say a word. He grabbed his phone, walked into the study, and slammed the door behind him.
The next day, Harvey never showed up again.
I had no idea what Cyrus told him or what he did.
Either way, the guy completely vanished.
[Cyrus is basically like: try touching my sister and see what happens.]
[Cyrus must be terrifying when he’s actually angry.]
(The guy disappears overnight. You don’t mess with a billionaire.)
That night, when Cyrus finally stepped out of the study, I was waiting for him in the living room.
I handed him a cup of hot coffee.
“All taken care of?”
“Yeah.”
“How did you handle it?”
“You don’t need to know.”
“Is it… legal?”
He glanced at me.
“Yes.” He paused for a second. “For the most part.”
I blinked.
Fine, I wasn’t going to press for details.
Sadie poked her head out from upstairs, “That creep isn’t coming back, right?”
“He won’t.”
“Yes! Cyrus, you’re the best!”
She sprinted down the stairs, gave Cyrus a quick hug, turned around to hug me, and then happily bounded back up to her room.
Cyrus watched her retreat, the corner of his mouth twitching up into a very faint smile.
It was subtle, but I caught it.
[This family is so sweet.]
[It feels so good to have people looking out for you.]
