The Fiancé’s Romantic Wedding Plan Was for My Best Friend Chapter 01

One week before the wedding, I borrowed my boyfriend Grayson Harper’s laptop to edit our love story video.

I stumbled on a scheduled email sealed away for ten years.

Curiosity got the better of me. I opened it.

Inside was a short note.

“Hello, Grayson Harper. This is you from ten years ago.”

“I’m sending this to remind you—she loves the night sky. Her favorite flower is the lily. Her favorite day of the year is June’s Valentine’s Day.”

“If ten years from now, you still love Eloise Winter…”

“Promise me you’ll give her a wedding she’ll never forget, okay?”

I froze.

Grayson had planned our wedding down to the last detail.

The theme was starry sky. The bouquet was lilies. And the date was next week—June’s Valentine’s Day.

After all these years, he remembered every single thing.

I should have been touched.

If only Eloise Winter weren’t my best friend’s name.

……

The front door clicked open, snapping me out of my daze.

I sat frozen in front of the laptop, my thoughts a tangled mess.

Grayson walked in first. Eloise followed right behind him.

“Odette, I heard you were editing and skipped dinner, so I brought you seafood congee,” Eloise chirped.

She unpacked the takeout and nudged the container toward me like she was presenting a trophy.

“See? Compared to Grayson, I treat you way better.”

Grayson crossed his arms and chuckled. “Odette’s my future wife. No matter how hard you try, you’ll never outrank me—”

Before he could finish, Eloise scowled and punched his arm, playful and familiar.

I’d grown used to their bickering, their constant competition for my attention.

Half an hour ago, I thought I was the luckiest woman alive. A devoted boyfriend. A best friend who adored me.

But now, watching their easy intimacy, a deafening roar filled my skull.

“I can’t eat,” I whispered.

Eloise frowned. “That won’t do. You’ve always had a sensitive stomach. Just one bite—”

Grayson nodded in agreement. “Eloise is right. Take care of yourself.”

Their synchronized concern ignited the fury I’d been barely holding back.

I shoved the bowl away. “I said I don’t want any!”

Eloise’s grip wasn’t steady. Scalding soup splashed across the desk.

She yelped. Grayson grabbed her hand instantly, checking for burns.

“Odette, what the hell is wrong with you? Why are you taking this out on her?”

The anger in his voice hit me like a bucket of ice water.

That instinctive protectiveness. I’d never noticed it before.

I’d never hated my own blindness more.

Eloise gave him a soft, calming smile. “It’s probably pre-wedding nerves. Odette doesn’t usually snap like this…”

I couldn’t take it anymore. I cut her off.

“Eloise, what do you think of my wedding?”

Eloise blinked, then smiled. “I love it.”

I curled my lips. “Of course you do. The date, the theme, the flowers. This wedding was tailor-made for you by Grayson.”

“Eloise, you’re wasted as my maid of honor. Only the bride’s role suits you.”

I stood, yanked off my engagement ring, and tossed it onto the keyboard.

Following my movement, they both saw the glowing email on the screen.

Eloise’s face went paper-white.

Silence stretched for several seconds before Grayson spoke.

“Odette, Eloise and I have a past. I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want you overthinking.”

“But believe me, this wedding is for you. Those details? Just a coincidence.”

I nodded, my laugh hollow. “Fine. Coincidence, right? Then let’s change the date.”

Grayson went quiet. He clearly hadn’t expected that demand.

Sometimes silence says everything.

A wave of absurdity washed over me. I laughed again. It looked uglier than crying.

Grayson sighed. “It’s not what you think. The invitations are already sent. Changing the date now would be inappropriate…”

Pathetic.

Betrayal devoured the last of my sanity. I raised my hand and slapped him hard across the face.

Smack!

Eloise and Grayson both froze.

The pain should have been his. So why was I the one crying?

I refused to let them see me break. I didn’t even put on shoes. I bolted out the front door.
