The Popular Girl Manipulated Our Applications I Went To Stanford Chapter 05
“That’s not true!” Chad shouted. “Tiffany doesn’t even know how to reinstall an OS. How could she change applications herself? You’re setting her up.”
The officer remained stone-faced and handcuffed Chad.
“We’ll know the truth when we check the coffee shop security footage. And that girl Tiffany has already been brought in for questioning. You can all see each other at the station.”
Leonard sat on the ground, shaking uncontrollably.
“It’s over, all of it. Teacher of the year. My job. Everything.”
He suddenly scrambled up and grabbed my pants leg.
“Jennifer, Jennifer, you have to help me. You’re the valedictorian. Stanford already accepted you.”
“You know people at the state board. Just call them and tell them this was all a misunderstanding. If they change everyone’s applications back, I promise I’ll do anything you say.”
I kicked his hand away in disgust and stepped back.
“Mr. Kowalski, now you remember I’m the valedictorian? You weren’t acting that way when you were demanding my password and telling me to apologize to Tiffany.”
Just then, the elevator doors opened.
Lindsay and a few other students from the complex ran out, gasping for breath.
They froze at the sight of the police, then immediately lunged at me.
“Jennifer, you evil woman!” Lindsay’s hair was a mess, her eyes red.
“Tiffany already admitted it. The hacker ran off because you wouldn’t lend her your valedictorian account as a bridge. You should give up your Stanford spot to one of us.”
“Yeah, give it to us!” The others joined in, voices full of anger.
I looked at these idiots and felt nothing but pity.
“Lindsay, you believe everything Tiffany says? The police are right here. The cyber division already proved there was no hack.”
“Tiffany stole the password spreadsheet and changed everything herself.”
Lindsay froze, then shook her head wildly.
“I don’t believe you. You’re lying. Tiffany would never hurt us.”
“She only got a 980 on her SATs,” I said quietly.
“She couldn’t even get into community college, let alone a four-year school. That technical college was her only option.”
“And she didn’t want to go there alone. So she decided to take all of you with her.”
The hallway went dead silent.
Everyone’s faces were frozen as if struck by lightning.
Lindsay’s lips trembled. Tears rolled down her face.
“No. That’s not true. She said yesterday she wanted to visit California with me.”
Chad stood there in shock, held by the officers, muttering to himself.
“No. Tiffany wouldn’t lie to me. I sent her all that money for the hacker. Fifteen thousand dollars from my family’s savings.”
“Fifteen thousand dollars?” I raised an eyebrow.
The officer gave a cold laugh. “That account was traced back to Tiffany herself.”
Chad’s legs gave out and he dropped to his knees. “Tiffany. Why would you do this to me?”
“Because you’re an idiot,” I muttered under my breath.
