Why the Mafia’s Wife Kills Chapter 09

The second I turned off my phone, I felt a rush of relief wash over me.

Getting their hopes up just to have them crushed instantly must feel awful, didn’t it?

I closed my eyes, and I could almost picture Lorenzo’s furious, helpless expression.

I took a month off and went to the seaside I’d always dreamed of visiting.

I ran wild along the beach, chasing the sunset into the sea breeze.

The feeling of freedom was so intoxicating I couldn’t get enough of it.

A month later, I came back to New York.

I turned on my phone-hundreds of missed calls, thousands of texts, all from Lorenzo.

It went from accusations at the start, to insults, to helpless begging by the end.

I sneered and blocked every single one of his contacts.

To my surprise, I found Lorenzo waiting for me right outside my rented apartment.

He was squatting by the door, asleep with his closed.

eyes

His shirt was already yellowed with grime, and his face was covered in stubble. He’d been camped out here for a long time, that much was obvious.

I tried to slip away quietly, but I still woke him up.

“Lily!”

He called out to me, his red-rimmed eyes staring up at me, his face twisted with agony.

“Where have you been? Why haven’t you answered my calls this whole time? Why did you kill our

baby so cruelly?

“That was the baby we waited for for so long…

“How could you be so heartless? My mom got so sick from the stress, she’s been in bed crying for days. How could you do this to us?”

After that whole trip, my mindset had changed a lot.

Now, when I faced Lorenzo, I could stay completely calm.

“Did you forget? I told you a long time ago, I even gave you a choice. You didn’t believe me, you

chose to ice me out.

“Lorenzo, you haven’t just met me. You should know-once I decide to let go, I’ll be completely

ruthless.

“I wanted this baby just as much as you did. But your attitude left me no choice but to walk away”

Lorenzo lunged forward and grabbed my hand so tight it hurt.

“But the wedding photo incident wasn’t my fault! I was trying to fix it!

“You know how hard my family worked to get where it is from the last generation, I can’t let this ruin my reputation!

“Didn’t I promise you? After this whole blows over, I’ll throw you another wedding. But you just had to go and file for divorce!”

I lowered my eyes, tired and resigned.

“Come on, Lorenzo. You’re still lying to me even now. You and Maya have been sleeping together

for ages.”

“I didn’t…”

He denied it almost on instinct, until I laid the photos right in front of him. Then his face went dark

and he shut his mouth.

“I told you a long time ago that Maya’s ambition is bigger than you think.

“You think you hid it so well, but actually, she told me everything-when you kissed, when you slept together, every single thing.

“I’ll give her credit, she won. Because right now, you make me sick to my stomach.

“So there’s no way I’m keeping this baby. The Vitale family’s door is too high and mighty for me, I’m not gonna keep forcing my way in anymore.

“Lorenzo, this is the last time I’ll talk about the past with you calmly. Tomorrow, I’m officially filing for divorce.”

With that, I walked right past him and didn’t glance back once.

Pain, heartbreak, despair.

After spending so many nights alone swallowing all those emotions down, I could finally face it all calmly.

I gave him a million chances.

He always held that high-and-mighty attitude, like I was just some parasite clinging to him to

survive.

He thought I’d never leave him, so he could get away with anything.

But what was the truth?

The truth was, no one couldn’t live without another person.
