His Grandfather Chose Me But I Chose His Dying Cousin Chapter 07

His Grandfather Chose Me But I Chose His Dying Cousin Chapter 07 (Continue)

For a while, rumors spread everywhere.

People said Evan had actually dared to challenge Mr. Crawford Sr. because of me.

They also said that after I chose Harrison, Evan started getting closer and closer to my sister.

I ignored all of it.

Because Harrison and I had already set a wedding date.

It would be next month.

At some point, Harrison came to see me.

He looked at me for a long time, his gaze unreadable, before finally speaking.

“If you regret this, I’ll talk to Granddad and beg him to call off the engagement.’

“Why would I regret it?”

“I know you love Evan.”

The tone of his voice reminded me of the way he had gone nearly insane for me before I died in my

previous life.

I almost cried.

“I used to love him, but I don’t anymore.”

“Why?”

“Before, it was an obsession. I thought if I wanted something badly enough and kept holding on, I would eventually get it. Now I understand that love doesn’t work that way. And I had a very long dream. In that dream, you saved me. That’s why I lost my composure the previous two times we saw

each other. I was too overwhelmed.”

The tips of his ears turned bright red.

“Have you really made up your mind to marry me?”

I nodded firmly.

He could not help smiling.

Then he took out a document envelope from behind him. It was about the same size as the one Mr.

Crawford Sr. had given me.

“Keep this safe. What Granddad gave you is yours, and what I have is yours too. Everything I have is yours.” He lowered his head, suddenly embarrassed. “If I ever betray you, let me lose everything.”

It seemed he had already made up his mind before coming to see me.

I stared at the document envelope in my hands.

It felt unbearably heavy.

Mr. Crawford Sr. was repaying the life debt he owed my grandfather. But what about Harrison? Why was he doing this?

I did not ask.

I only accepted it solemnly.

Then I took off the heirloom locket my grandmother had left me from around my neck.

In my previous life, I had given it to Evan.

But he used it to please another woman.

In this life, Harrison held it in his hand as if he had been given something priceless.

“Clara, I’ll treat you well. I promise.”

When I got home, I saw Lily sitting by the piano in the living room.

At the sound of the door opening, she turned and glared at me viciously.

“Clara, you really are calculating. I can’t believe you thought of using Harrison to provoke Evan.”

“Too bad Evan doesn’t care. No matter what you do, it’s pointless.”

“Besides, everyone knows Harrison is useless. He can’t even… Are you planning to spend your whole life in a sexless marriage?”

After she said that, she laughed smugly.

Looking at her twisted expression, I swallowed back what I wanted to say.

Just then, the housekeeper shouted from elsewhere in the house.

“Oh my God, isn’t that Mr. Evan Crawford? Miss Clara, come look.”

I hurried to the window and saw that Evan really had come.

He was standing in our front yard.

The neighbors had gathered around to watch the drama.

Those who knew the situation were already whispering about where things would go between Clara

Bennett and Evan Crawford.

Before I could say anything, Lily had already opened the door and rushed outside.

“Evan, are you here for me?”

But Evan shoved her aside.

Caught off guard by the force of the push, Lily fell to the ground.

“Clara, marry me.’

With that, he dropped to one knee and pulled out a ring in front of everyone.
