His Girl Best Friend Mocked My Calm Act—Unhinged Family Shut Her Chapter 06
Skyler and Cole both froze in place.
I gently pushed my mom’s hand aside. “Mom. It’s fine.”
I looked at Cole and Skyler. Both of them were bruised and swollen. My face was expressionless.
Cole’s left eye was swollen shut. Blood was running down his chest. His white shirt was covered in red spots.
Skyler wasn’t doing much better. Her right cheek was swollen and her lip was split. But she was still fighting, still screaming.
“Let go of me! This is assault! I’m calling the police! I’m getting a lawyer! I’ll have you all put in jail!”
My dad finally spoke. “Call the police? Go ahead.”
He pulled out his phone and dropped it at Skyler’s feet. “Call them.”
But Skyler hesitated. I stepped forward and stood next to my dad. I gently tugged his sleeve.
“Dad. Stop. Let’s at least make it look like we follow the law.”
My dad looked at me and his whole face softened.
Skyler snapped her head up at my words. Her eyes were full of hatred.
“Look at you, Grace. Playing the good guy now? You have your dad beat people up while you stand there talking about the law? Your whole family is—”
I cut her off. “You’re the one breaking the law. Throwing things out windows is illegal.”
“You threw my phone out the eighteenth-floor window. There’s a sidewalk down there.”
Skyler looked like she’d been insulted. Because here I was, still talking about littering at a time like this.
She picked up the phone and spat out, “Fine. I’ll call the police right now. Let’s
see who gets the worse sentence.”
But my mom gasped dramatically. “Oh, I almost forgot. Honey, the power went out at the office today. The security cameras are all down.”
My mom gave Skyler her signature innocent look.
“You can’t accuse us of assault, ma’am.”
“Why would a public company CEO like me lay a hand on someone like you? My assets appreciate by the second. You’re nobody.”
Skyler glared at my mom. Her lips were trembling. “You did hit me. These bruises are evidence. You can’t lie your way out of it.”
My mom straightened up and spread her hands.
She looked at the twenty bodyguards, then at my dad, then back at Skyler.
“Hit you? Who hit anyone? There are twenty-three of us here. Every single one of us is a witness.”
“What we saw was the two of you beating each other up in the break room.”
She pointed at Cole and then at Skyler. “You two had a fight.”
“You’re a couple breaking up. You got into it in the break room. Our employees tried to break it up, and you cursed them out for it.”
Skyler was shaking with rage. “We’re not boyfriend and girlfriend. He’s my friend. You’re twisting everything.”
My mom tilted her head. “Oh really? Then why were you kissing him?”
“The break room camera was down, but plenty of employees saw you kiss him. That makes you a homewrecker. And you think you’re in the right?”
