The Day I Stopped Sending Him Sunsets Chapter 03

I didn’t speak.

I just looked coldly at Aaron, waiting for an explanation.

He grew impatient under my gaze.

While thoughtfully pulling out a chair for Hannah, he said to me, “I went to pick Hannah up, so I was a little late.”

“Sorry.”

I hummed, expressionless, then lowered my head and opened the menu.

Aaron looked at me in surprise.

He had probably expected me to make a scene.

But I let it pass just like that.

I raised a hand and called the server over.

“I’ll have Set A. Please replace the red wine with warm water. Thank you.”

Across from me, Hannah suddenly leaned closer and pointed at the menu sweetly.

“This couples’ set looks really good. Too bad Nora doesn’t eat seafood, so she can’t order it. But Aaron and I both love seafood. Why don’t we get the couples’ set?”

“Nora, is that okay?”

Aaron’s brows tightened.

After all, we had argued over seafood on the engagement dinner menu last time.

Now there was this couples’ set.

No matter how close he was with Hannah, even he knew it was inappropriate.

“Hannah, let’s not order the coup…”

“Sure.”

I cut him off without even lifting my eyes.

Aaron’s gaze on me grew even stranger.

In the end, he still didn’t let Hannah order the couples’ set.

He even secretly watched my reaction from the corner of his eye.

Too bad.

I had no reaction.

I wasn’t pretending.

I truly felt it didn’t matter.

Throughout lunch, Aaron looked like he wanted to say something several times.

But Hannah’s endless chatter covered every attempt.

I quietly ate the food on my plate and listened to them talk about movies, work, and recent funny little things.

That lively atmosphere looked exactly like me and Aaron seven years ago.

It wasn’t until we were about to leave that Aaron finally remembered to ask me, “Nora, what was the important thing you wanted to tell me?”

I wiped my mouth and picked up my bag.

“It’s something private between us. We should talk about it alone.”

“Go on. You should head back for your lunch break.”

Aaron knew he was in the wrong, so he said nothing more.

He only looked at me awkwardly.

“Well… Hannah’s company is pretty far, and it’s hard to get a ride here. I have to take her back first, so…”

I understood what he meant.

I lifted my phone and showed him the screen.

“I already got a car. It wasn’t hard.”

“You can take her.”

Aaron looked guilty.

He walked to my side, trying to hold my hand and say something sweet.

I quietly avoided him.

“My ride’s here.”

I turned and walked toward the door.

Aaron followed me for a couple of steps and promised solemnly, “Nora, don’t worry. I’ll definitely get off work early today and keep you company.”

I nodded.

I chose to believe Aaron one last time.

When I got home, I handled almost everything that needed to be handled.

My suitcases were placed neatly by the entryway.

Very obvious.

Easy to pull out and leave with.

At five, the door suddenly opened.

It was Aaron.

I was a little confused.

He usually got off work at five-thirty.

This was practically leaving early.

Had Aaron really come back this early to keep me company?
