My Coworker Asked About My Secret Husband, I Said Strangers Chapter 08

Brandon’s car quickly caught up.

He stayed right behind me all the way to our building’s garage.

I got out. He slammed his door shut and came after me.

His eyes were wild with panic, a thin layer of sweat on his forehead. “Madison.”

Compared to his frantic look, I was calm, like nothing had happened.

“What’s wrong?”

His voice was tight. “Back there, I was worried you’d be jealous.”

Jealous? I couldn’t help but laugh. “Brandon, I’m not jealous.”

He stared hard at my face. The answer made his brow furrow.

I said, “The elevator’s here. Let’s go.”

That weekend, I went to the Cole family estate to see Harold.

He looked surprised to see me. “You came alone?”

I nodded. We went to his study.

“Grandpa, I wanted to tell you first. I’m going to divorce Brandon.”

He took a deep breath.

“I heard what you and Brandon said that day,” I continued. “That’s how I found out Elena was his ex.”

Harold’s eyes grew moist. Even at his age, he was still sharp.

“You heard that. I don’t have the right to say anything anymore.”

“Our family didn’t handle things well back then. Trying to repay your family now, that’s on me. If you want a divorce, I won’t stop you.”

From the very beginning, I’d truly loved Brandon, not because of his family’s money.

When I got the chance to be with him, to marry him, I was over the moon. It felt like winning the lottery. Who wouldn’t want to be with someone they loved?

I left the estate and went to the office. I’d been applying for a transfer to become head of our Southern Region Marketing team.

When the promotion opportunity first came up, I almost turned it down. Good thing I didn’t act impulsively.

Between preparing documents and handing over my current work, I got busy.

After work, I went to Liam’s law office. He handled divorces.

Jessica and he had moved faster than I expected. They’d already slept together. Knowing Jessica, I figured we’d be at their wedding in three months.

She’d always been fearless in love, bold and passionate. I’d envied that about her. Now I was going to follow her example.

On Sunday, one of Brandon’s friends got married. He asked if I wanted to go with him.

Before, I would have jumped at the chance.

“I’m busy with work. I have things to handle. You go ahead.”

He looked at me for a long moment, then looked away. “Okay.”
