The Hollow Luna Who Got Betrayed Chapter 02
That night, after we returned to the pack house, Lucas insisted on making me eat a small piece of steak.
He held the fork with a gentle expression and tried to feed me. “How is your body supposed to get better if you won’t eat meat?”
If my body did not get better, I would not be able to provide healthy organs for Julia. Was that it?
Looking at the mild, gentlemanly face he wore so convincingly, another wave of nausea rolled through me.
My Omega scent began to spiral out of control, and my stomach churned violently.
I rushed into the bathroom and locked the door behind me. Ignoring Lucas’s questions from outside, I threw
up everything I had just eaten!
My phone suddenly vibrated in my bag.
Unknown number: [Have you really decided to leave this place?]
I gripped my phone, unable to stop thinking about the cold tone Lucas had used when he said those words.
I replied: [Yes. The sooner, the better.]
Before long, Lucas had a servant find the key and open the door. He frowned when he saw me. “Did you throw up again? Stop taking the restorative tonic they prescribed last time. Take the new one instead.”
He lied to me every single day. What he gave me was clearly medicine meant to suppress my Omega scent, yet he called it a restorative tonic.
I used to want so badly to have his pup. No matter how bitter the medicine was, I could swallow it with a hopeful smile. Even my wolf would howl softly inside me whenever I drank it, because it thought each dose
carried our mate’s hope.
Looking back now, I had been so stupid.
I lifted my face and looked at him numbly. “Am I dying? Can you tell me the truth for onge? How much time do I have left?”
A flicker of panic crossed Lucas’s usually composed face. He suddenly pulled me into his arms, his voice tight. “Don’t talk nonsense. You’re going to stay with me for a very, very long time.”
His sweet words had always sounded beautiful. Over the past two years, whenever I brought up having a pup, he always said he could not bear to put me through the hardship of pregnancy.
In truth, he had known all along that I would never be able to get pregnant.
My womb had already been taken out of my body, yet he still watched me struggle every day to heal, taking one bitter, disgusting medicine after another while I dreamed of the three of us becoming a happy little family after our pup arrived.
Fine. Without a pup, there would be no tie between us. Without a pup, the pull of the mate bond would be
much weaker, and I would be able to leave him cleanly.
Before we went to sleep, Lucas took me again and again, as if possessed. The wolf inside him kept calling to me, its restless presence crashing through the bedroom. In the past, it would have triggered me into heat, but now my body could no longer respond to him.
He ordered me never to mention the word “death” again.
I endured it numbly until it was over. When the man beside me had fallen asleep and the wolf inside him finally sank into dreams, I picked up the phone he had left on the nightstand and walked into the bathroom.
His lock-screen password was my birthday. Because of that, I had never checked his phone before. Now that I thought about it, he had probably counted on exactly that.
When I opened WhatsApp, I discovered that his contact name for Julia was “Darling.”
It was the name he whispered against my ear in bed when he was most lost in passion.
So the person he had been calling was never me. He had only been using me as Julia’s substitute, as a way to comfort himself. The mate his wolf truly recognized had always been Julia.
How ridiculous.
With trembling fingers, I opened their chat history.
That was when I found out.
While I was vomiting every day from the side effects of those drugs, he had established the Julia Green Foundation, hoping his charity would earn the Moon Goddess’s favor and keep her healthy for the rest of
her life.
He wanted to earn the Moon Goddess’s favor for her. Then what about the sin they had committed against
me?
Tears fell from my eyes before I even realized it. I bit down on my lip and took screenshots of their conversations, one after another, my heart already numb from the pain.
My Omega wolf let out a silent howl. It was the despair of being utterly betrayed by one’s mate.
I immediately found a pack hospital for a full physical exam. It was a pack hospital in neutral territory
outside the Northern Pack’s lands, beyond the Northern Pack’s jurisdiction.
The healer frowned deeply as he read my report. “How many surgeries have you had? Why are you missing a kidney and a womb? There are signs of damage to your liver, too. You’re an Omega, aren’t you? Losing your
womb means your scent will be permanently unstable.”
I gave a bitter smile. “A lot. I can’t remember anymore. With my body like this, how long can I live?”
The healer was unwilling to give me a definitive answer. He only sighed and urged me to keep my stress down and not give up hope.
After leaving the pack hospital, I went to Lucas’s company, the Northern Pack’s corporate headquarters, intending to formally ask him to break the mate bond.
A Beta secretary at the front desk stopped me. I told her I was Lucas’s mate.
She looked me up and down with open contempt. “There are plenty of Omegas who want to be Lucas’s mate. And you, looking this weak, still dare to pretend you’re the Luna? Our Luna is upstairs right now. Take a whiff of your own scent. It’s so weak you smell like you’re about to drop dead. And you think you’re worthy?”
My chest tightened, and I could only call Lucas on the spot. No one picked up.
The mockery on the Beta’s face deepened.
I waited quietly downstairs until very late, until I watched Lucas walk out of the elevator with Julia in his
arms.
Julia was wrapped in his suit jacket. His Alpha scent covered her thickly, the scent of being marked. My sister, the woman using my womb, was being held in my mate’s arms.
The moment our eyes met, Lucas seemed a little embarrassed. “You… what are you doing here? I mean, Julia twisted her ankle. She’s pregnant, and it’s hard for her to move around, so I was helping her.”
Julia leaned against Lucas with a soft smile. Something that did not belong to her was mixed into her Omega
scent.
My womb was nurturing a life inside her.
“Claire, my own mate is overseas on business, so let me borrow Lucas for a while. I’m pregnant, after all. I need someone looking after me.”
All I could hear was the word “pregnant.”
Julia was pregnant, using my womb.
Inside me, my wolf let out a sharp, piercing cry of grief, then fell completely silent.
