I Saw The Comments Calling Me Evil And Realized I Was Pregnant Chapter 06

The Rothschild Manor was as massive as a palace.

Stepping onto the marble floors in my cheap t-shirt and jeans, I felt like a thief who had accidentally broken into a royal court.

Nash held my hand firmly, leading me through the endless corridors, past the main drawing-room, and straight into the study.

An elderly man sat in a mahogany chair, his hair stark white, his gaze piercing.

He scanned me from head to toe. “So you’re Khloe?”

My voice shook, “Yes… sir.”

Karter didn’t acknowledge my greeting, turning his gaze to Nash, “So she’s the one who lied to you about the fifty thousand and called you a loser every single day?”

My face burned bright red.

Nash squeezed my hand tightly, “Grandpa, that’s all in the past. She treats me very well now.”

“Treats you well?” Karter let out a cold snort, “That is not what I heard. She constantly yelled at you, made you sleep on the floor, and forced you out into a downpour just to buy a durian. Is that true?”

I bit my lip, nodding, “Yes.”

“Then what makes you think you deserve to marry my grandson?”

I took a deep breath.

He was right. What gave me the right?

I was decent-looking, but nothing special. No fancy degree. No wealthy background. I had lied. I had been physically and verbally abusive.

The comments were right. I was just a vain, selfish, pretty idiot.

But…

“Sir,” I raised my head, my voice still trembling, though I forced myself to stand straight, “I did do a lot of terrible things in the past. I was vain, greedy, short-tempered, and I treated Nash terribly.”

“But I know better now. I’m pregnant with his child, and I want to be a good mother and a good wife. I’m not asking you to accept me right now. But please, give me a chance. I’ll prove it to you.”

Karter stared at me, remaining completely silent.

The study grew so quiet that the ticking of the clock felt deafening.

My palms were slick with sweat.

Nash spoke up, “Grandpa, she’s pregnant. You’re going to be a great-grandfather.”

Karter shifted his gaze down to my belly.

A long silence followed.

Then, he suddenly smiled.

“Your grandmother was a nurse, too,” he looked at me, his eyes softening slightly, “She lied to me back then, too. She claimed I owed her my life and demanded I marry her to pay the debt.”

I froze in shock.

“I found out later that she hadn’t actually saved me at all,” the old man shook his head, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips, “But so what? She stuck by my side through a lifetime of hardships, and she never regretted it once.”

He stood up and walked over to me. “Khloe, I don’t care what you say, I only care what you do. You’ve passed my test for now, but you’ll need to sign an agreement.”

“What kind of agreement?”

“If you ever treat Nash poorly in the future, you leave with absolutely nothing, and the child stays with the Rothschilds.”

Without a second thought, I replied, “Deal.”

The old man had someone bring the paperwork over, and I signed it immediately.

Beside me, Nash frowned, “Grandpa, isn’t this a bit too…”

“Enough,” Karter glared at him, “I’m doing this for your own good. You’d give up your life for her. If I don’t look out for you, she’ll have you wrapped around her finger and you won’t even know you’re being played.”

I lowered my head.

He was right. I used to be exactly that kind of person to Nash.

Leaving the study, Nash took me down to his bedroom.

The moment the door opened, I was stunned.

It wasn’t because of how massive the room was or how luxurious the decor looked.

It was because a durian was sitting on the bed.

It was neatly peeled, the golden flesh arranged beautifully on a plate with a spoon resting beside it.

“When did you…”

“I had the butler prepare it,” Nash guided me over to the edge of the bed to sit down. “Didn’t you want some? You returned it last time, but I kept it in mind.”

My tears spilled over again. “How do you remember everything…”

“I’ll never forget a single thing that involves you,” he handed me the spoon, “Eat, stop crying. Crying too much isn’t good for the baby.”

I took the spoon, scooped up a piece of the durian, and popped it into my mouth.

It was sweet.

Sweeter than any time before.

[Ah, the durian callback is fulfilled!]

[The ML is so attentive, I’m crying.]

[Khloe, you better cherish him!]

[Wait, Lilith isn’t just going to let this go, right?]

As I ate, a sudden thought crossed my mind.

“Nash, Lilith said she was the one who caused your amnesia. Is that true?”

The warmth in Nash’s eyes instantly vanished, replaced by an icy coldness.

“Yes. Her family orchestrated that car crash. They wanted me to lose my memory so they could keep me under their control and force the marriage alliance.”

“Then why did you go see her? That night, you left with her…”

“I didn’t leave with her. That night, she brought a neurologist to find me, claiming they could help restore my memory. I didn’t know it was her until I got there,” he paused, “I tried to contact you the moment the treatment ended, but my phone had been compromised.”

“Then what are you going to do now?”

“The police have already been involved,” Nash said indifferently, “What her family did is more than enough to put her away for a very long time.”

Looking at his profile, I suddenly felt like this man was a stranger.

Not emotionally distant, but rather, he was actually so powerful and ruthless, yet I had dared to scream at him and hit him in the past.

A sudden shiver ran down my spine.

Nash turned to look at me, “What’s wrong?”

“N-nothing.”

“Are you wondering if I’m going to hold a grudge over the times you bully me?”

I nodded vigorously.

He pinched my cheek gently, “No, I won’t. But if you ever do it again, I’ll lock you inside the house and never let you go anywhere.”

I flinched.

I wouldn’t dare. Never again.
