The Fiancé’s Romantic Wedding Plan Was for My Best Friend Chapter 05

The day after the wedding, I submitted my resignation.

Ever since Grayson used my job as leverage, I’d decided to leave.

I’d been there since graduation. Worked my way up over six years to a solid position.

Yes, it stung. But not enough to stay.

My boss looked regretful. She’d seen the viral videos and knew the truth. She didn’t stop me.

But as I stepped out of her office, I ran straight into a seething Grayson.

“You ruined my wedding to Eloise. Happy now?” He grabbed my arm, grip crushing.

I couldn’t break free. I slapped him again. While he was stunned, I shoved him off.

“You asked for it.”

“If you hadn’t kept pushing me, threatening my career, I wouldn’t have given you that wedding gift.”

Grayson’s veins bulged with rage. “You know Eloise is sick! What you did could have killed her!”

I laughed. “Oh? Did she die?”

Eloise had been hospitalized for asthma attacks countless times over the years.

I’d grown numb to it.

Grayson saw there was no reasoning with me. His voice turned cold. “Odette, you’re ice-cold. Go to the

hospital and apologize to Eloise now. Otherwise, that promotion is gone for good.”

I clapped slowly. “Same trick twice? You think I still care?”

Grayson blinked, caught off guard.

He seemed genuinely confused how a workahic like me could throw it all away.

I smiled softly. “You say I tried to kill Eloise? What about her? She leaked photos of me entering the

gynecology ward and spread rumors about my abortions. How is she any better?”

Grayson’s pupils dilated. Exactly the reaction I’d had when I found out.

The day that leak went up, I had a friend trace the IP

The poster was terrified. He admitted the truth. Eloise paid him to smear me.

Honestly, I hadn’t planned to escalate this far.

Until I learned the truth.

That was my breaking point. I swore they wouldn’t get away with it.

Grayson couldn’t drag me back to the hospital.

When he returned alone, Eloise threw another fit. “Asher, you see how Odette torments me, and you can’t do a

thing?!”

Grayson rubbed his temples. Finally, he spoke. “Didn’t you start those rumors about her abortions?”

Eloise’s expression stiffened. “She told you?” She paused. “What do you mean ‘rumors’? I paid for that photo.

It’s real!”

“She’s a young woman being wheeled into a gynecology OR. What else could it be?”

Grayson was quiet for a moment. “Actually, it was because-”

His phone buzzed, cutting him off.

He picked it up. A friend had forwarded a link to a Twitter thread posted five minutes ago by me, tagging

both him and Eloise.

“Before I pursued Mr. Harper, I confirmed he was single. Out of respect for privacy, I never asked about his

past.”

“I was with Mr. Harper for nine years. I learned of his history with Ms. Winter only a week ago. Therefore, I firmly believe I was never the third party.”

“Additionally, I must address the malicious rumors. The photo of me entering gynecological surgery is real.

But I was not having an abortion.”

“Years ago, I took a knife for Mr. Harper during a mugging. The blade pierced my abdomen and damaged my

uterus.”

“As a result, I had no choice but to undergo a hysterectomy.”
