The Other Man in My Wife’s Tent Chapter 08

The moment he heard that, Brantli’s face changed.

He stared at Mr. Kent in shock.

“Mr. Kent, don’t listen to them.”

“I didn’t do anything like this.”

“You know me!”

Mr. Kent looked at me.

“Mr. Carter, Brantli is my employee.”

“What you’ve told me makes sense.”

“But I can’t make a decision based on one person’s word alone.”

“Do you have any proof?”

I nodded.

“Of course.”

“But I still mean what I said.”

“Make him sign the agreement first.”

“I need someone to answer for everything I’ve lost.”

Mr. Kent turned back to Brantli.

“This is your last chance.”

“Sign it.”

Brantli’s hand trembled as he picked up the pen.

He glanced at the forensic expert standing beside me.

He made over $10,000 a month.

Even though $500,000 would take years to earn back, losing this job meant he might never find another one like it.

But right before he signed, Brantli suddenly dropped to his knees.

“Mr. Kent, please.”

“If I sign this…”

“And if he really has proof…”

“Can you promise you won’t fire me?”

“My mother is sick.”

“I can’t lose this job.”

His words were basically an admission.

Mr. Kent frowned.

He knew Brantli had already been pushed into a corner.

After a moment, he finally spoke.

“What you’ve done has damaged the company’s reputation.”

“I can’t let you stay in this position.”

Brantli’s face immediately filled with panic.

Mr. Kent continued.

“You can transfer to a regular position.”

“Your salary will be cut by more than half.”

“If you accept that, then pay Mr. Carter what he lost.”

Brantli knew he had no leverage left.

In the end, he looked at me.

“Caleb, I’m sorry.”

“This was my fault.”

“Yes, Bree and I were together.”

“But I didn’t know she was married.”

“She was the one who came after me!”

“Please.”

“Can you cut the amount down?”

“My family really does have someone sick who needs me.”

Bree, who had been hiding behind the crowd, went completely pale.

Everyone’s eyes turned toward her.

“That woman is shameless.”

“She’s married, but she still went out and messed around with another man.”

“She ruined someone else’s family.”

Bree clenched her teeth.

But she couldn’t say anything.

Her parents couldn’t defend her either.

I looked at Brantli.

“You might not know this.”

“But before I came here, I already investigated you.”

“You only have one family member.”

“Your father.”

“He’s been an alcoholic for years.”

“Your mother passed away long ago.”

Brantli had nothing left to say.

Two years of betrayal.

And in the end, it only cost him $500,000.

I didn’t leave right away.

Instead, I called the police in front of everyone.

This was a civil dispute.

I needed a police report as proof.

Otherwise, there would be more trouble later.

Eventually, I went home with my parents.

As for Bree, she still refused to sign the agreement.

Because she didn’t want to give up her share of the assets.

However, I had already filed a lawsuit against her.

The court hearing would happen soon.

But before that day came, something unexpected happened.

The next night, I passed by Lunaris Group’s housing.

I saw a crowd gathered around someone.

People were standing there, pointing at someone on the ground.

I walked closer.

And I realized it was Brantli.

He was lying on the ground.

Blood was running from his head.

And the person who attacked him was Bree.

Standing beside her was her father.

Brantli looked at her with difficulty.

“When you pursued me, you told me you were single.”

“I chased after you.”

“I bought you all those gifts.”

“And it was all a lie.”

“I spent that much money on you!”

“And now you’re bringing your father here to demand emotional distress compensation from me?”

“Why would I give you anything?!”

Bree’s jaw tightened.

“I warned you yesterday not to admit anything.”

“But you still confessed that we were together.”

“Now Caleb is suing me because of you.”

“Because of you, I’m about to waive my claim to the marital assets.”

“So you have to pay for everything I’ve lost!”

Her father stared at Brantli coldly.

“Son of a bitch!”

“If you hadn’t chased after my daughter, she wouldn’t have ended up being called a cheater!”

“Today, if you can’t pay one million dollars in emotional distress compensation…”

“Don’t even think you’re walking away from this!”

He grabbed Brantli by the collar.

He pulled him up.

Then he slammed him back onto the ground.

By pure accident, Brantli’s head hit something sharp.

He passed out instantly.

I watched from a distance.

Suddenly, I thought…

People really could change in the blink of an eye.

Two days ago, they had still been lovers.

Now, they were enemies.

Before I left, someone called an ambulance.

Later, George was detained for assault.

On the day of the court hearing, Bree and her mother appeared.

With all the evidence laid out, Bree finally signed the agreement to give up her share of the assets.

Before leaving, she looked at me.

Her eyes held regret.

And resentment.

But none of it mattered to me anymore.
