Used, Betrayed, Gone Chapter 11 (Continue)

For a while after that, Caspian had to return to Los Angeles to respond to the lawsuit.

My life finally became quiet again.

Taking advantage of that time, I enrolled in a business major and went back to school.

For years, the Calloway family had treated me like a tool meant for a marriage alliance. They fed me well, dressed me beautifully, and treated me like a princess. The truth was that everything had been done so they could place the highest possible price tag on me when the time came for marriage.

From now on, I needed to build my own future.

I wanted to do it for myself, and I also wanted to become someone worthy of being with Preston.

What surprised me most was Preston’s parents, who were incredibly open-minded. They invited me out for afternoon tea and expressed genuine sympathy for everything I had gone through. They even reassured me that they would care for me the same way they cared for their own daughter.

They also told me not to put too much pressure on myself.

“Sweet girl, if Preston likes you, then we like you too. Just be yourself. Our family values character above everything else.”

As I looked at the two elderly people sitting across from me, tears suddenly streamed down my face.

Only then did I realize that in the past 20-plus years of my life, no one had ever truly loved me.

That was why I had mistaken such twisted feelings for love and salvation.

By the time I walked out of the café, tears were still running down my

face.

Before I could even gather myself, someone stepped directly into my path.

It was a woman.

I stared at her for a long time before recognition finally hit me. It was

Sabrina.

Her appearance shocked me.

The woman who had once looked graceful and alluring now looked completely different. Her body was swollen yet sickly thin, her face pale and sallow, her hair sparse and thinning, and a sour smell clung to her.

Her face and body were covered with countless scars of different shapes.

“What do you want?”

Seeing the wild look in her eyes, I cautiously took a step back.

Sabrina suddenly pulled out a knife and screamed hysterically, “Josie, this is all your fault! I was dumped because of you! No one wants me anymore!

“I was forced to abort the baby and kicked out of the Calloway family. Then, I ended up in that kind of place and got addicted to drugs! Give me money right now. I want a lot of money! If you don’t, I’ll kill you!”

I frowned.

I never expected that in only half a year, she would end up like this.

Meanwhile, the real culprits responsible for everything were still living comfortably, occasionally sending expensive gifts as if that could erase what had happened.

Suddenly, I felt a strange sense of sympathy for the woman who once

hurt me.

I was about to ask whether she wanted to join me in suing the Calloway family and reclaiming what belonged to us, but Sabrina lost her patience and drove the knife toward me.

“Josie!”

“Josie!”

Two voices shouted at the same time as Caspian and Preston ran toward me.

Preston was faster. He kicked Sabrina’s wrist, causing her to fall in pain, then pulled me tightly into his arms.

By the time Caspian reached us, Sabrina had already gotten back on her feet. The moment she saw him, every bit of her rage exploded.

She roared, “Caspian, this is all your fault! You’re the one who destroyed me!”

She lunged forward and stabbed him.

Caspian had no time to react. The blade plunged straight into his lower abdomen. Blood poured out instantly, forming large red drops on the ground beneath his feet.

As the police dragged Sabrina away, she burst into loud, hysterical laughter.

She stared at Caspian, who was lying in a pool of blood, with crazed

eyes.

“You brought this on yourself!”

I curled up in Preston’s arms and looked at the woman I could barely recognize anymore.

All I could do was let out a sigh.
