Betrayed luna: daughter stolen by her mate Chapter 05

Dante’s parents started working on him. Trying to convince him to take Bella back from Emily.

He got irritated fast. A few times, he outright snapped at them.

“I promised Emily. You want me to go back on my word? Where’s my dignity?”

“What’s more important? Your dignity or the future of this pack? You can’t have more pups. Bella is your only bloodline. Get her back now, while she’s still young. Pretend she was never gone. Wait two more years; she’ll be old enough to remember everything. She’ll hate you for it.”

“Mom. You’re the one who wanted a strong pup. Why do you suddenly care so much about Bella?”

“I wanted a strong heir for the pack. I never told you to give Bella away! Now you’ve lost the ability to have pups. She’s your only blood. If you don’t bring her back, don’t blame me when I choose a new Alpha who can actually sire an heir.”

A door slammed. Dante stormed out.

From the living room came Maria’s muffled sobs and Marcus’s heavy sighs.

I stayed in the bedroom and kept doing my recovery exercises.

If everything went as planned, Bella would be home soon.

I had to recover. My daughter needed me.

Dante didn’t come home for days. I wasn’t in any shape to go looking for him. At least he still answered my calls.

“Dante. Maria and Marcus went looking for you again today. Where are you?”

“I’ll be back in a few days. Tell them not to worry.”

I hung up. I already knew.

During the call, I’d heard a pup crying in the background. Bella. He’d gone to find Emily.

I pulled up the tracking app. After the accident, Dante was too shaken to drive long distances. If he went far, he flew.

Two days ago, at 1:30 in the afternoon, Dante boarded a flight to Las Vegas.

Emily was hiding in Las Vegas.

I remembered her ex, Ryan. He lived in Vegas too. A gambler who spent his days in casinos. No steady job.

Three years ago, Ryan botched a robbery and killed someone. He was sent to prison.

Not long after, Emily’s daughter swallowed something toxic at daycare. She died.

Then Emily got sick after giving birth. Had to have a hysterectomy. She’d never be able to carry a pup again.

As a mother, I pitied her.

But pity didn’t give her the right to steal my Bella.

If Dante went to find her, he was planning to bring Bella back.

But given how deep his feelings for Emily ran, I wasn’t sure how smoothly that would go.

Maria asked me if I knew where Dante was. I shook my head.

“Maria, Dante cares a lot about his pride. He made a promise. He’s not going to break it easily.”

Maria stared at my indifferent face. Then she exploded.

“I don’t know what goes on in your head. That’s your daughter. Don’t you care at all? If someone took my pup, I’d tear the world apart to find her.”

I wanted to tell her the truth. In my previous life, I did tear myself apart. I begged and threatened and fought to track Bella down. And Maria told me I was overreacting. That a weak little pup wasn’t worth the drama.

So this time, I wasn’t going to fight.

I was going to make them bring her back to me.

On the fifth day, Dante came home. He walked in with a dark look, went straight to the bedroom, and didn’t say a word.

Maria opened her mouth to lay into him. Marcus stopped her. Said they couldn’t push too hard.

Dante’s clothes smelled like baby milk. The moment I caught that scent, I nearly broke. My daughter’s scent. I closed my eyes. It was like she was right there.

I shoved my wolf down.

Just a little longer. Bella would be back in my arms soon.
