Fake Death, Real Exorcist, Don Never Forgot Chapter 04
I stepped in front of the car window and said coldly, “Kids his age all look the same.”
Grey gave a faint smile, but he didn’t argue.
“Is one of you an exorcist?” he asked.
Vera said, “Turn on any late-night radio drama. You’ll find enough exorcists to take over Los Angeles.”
Grey chuckled.
“Believe it or not, I’ve dealt with people like that before. The ones with real skills. A friend of mine has been desperate to see someone who died.”
Vera frowned. “Who?”
Grey looked straight at me.
“His wife.”
Vera tightened her grip on my hand. Even now, she was still trying to protect me.
Grey continued, “Miss Miller, have you ever heard of a Donna in New York named Serafina Visconti?”
“No,” I said.
The next second, he pulled out his phone and showed me a photo.
It was a clear shot of my face from the moment I saved Vera’s daughter.
Even with wine smeared across my skin, the woman in that picture looked exactly like the Donna who had escaped five years ago.
Grey stopped pretending.
He bent slightly at the waist.
“Miss Miller. Or should I say, Serafina Visconti. It’s been a long time.”
I didn’t get away.
No.
I never had a chance.
Grey had brought several men with him. They had already blocked every nearby exit. There was nowhere for me to run.
But he didn’t use the kind of methods the mafia reserved for traitors.
Instead, he ordered someone to bring clean towels and water. Then he had two blankets brought over, as if he was worried Vera and I would freeze in the cold night air.
“Don has missed you very much.”
I wiped the dirt from my face and looked at him coldly.
“Missed me? That word doesn’t mean anything good in a mafia family. You might as well kill me now.”
Cassian threw himself in front of me, his eyes red as he glared at Grey.
“Don’t hurt my mom!”
Grey lowered his gaze to the child.
For a moment, his expression turned unreadable.
“How old is he?”
I didn’t answer.
But it was as if he already knew.
Something shifted in his eyes.
“Five.”
Then he looked at Cassian and waved gently.
“Hello, future Visconti heir.”
Cassian clung to my leg and stared at him with open suspicion.
I laughed instead.
“Visconti heir?”
“Don’t insult me. I know the family rules. When you butcher prey, you always say something pretty first so it stops struggling.”
I looked at him without blinking.
“I won’t fight you. But let my friend go. She’s innocent.”
Vera looked at me, worry written all over her face.
Grey stayed silent for a long time. Then, finally, he spoke in a low voice. “Donovano never remarried.”
I lifted my eyes.
“What does that have to do with me?”
“Lysandra isn’t Donovano’s lover.”
My fingers went stiff.
Grey looked at me as if he was searching for the right words.
“Donna, there may be one thing you’ve been wrong about this entire time.”
