“Why is your stomach flat!”

Lucas’s voice was a thunderclap in the confined space.

With one hand, he pinned me to the floor. With the other, he frantically felt my abdomen, his palm pressing and searching.

Only when the reality sank in-that the baby was truly gone-did he freeze. His eyes reddened with shock.

Chloe covered her mouth, screaming sharply, “Even tigers don’t eat their cubs! You killed your own child!”

A gleam of excitement lit her eyes. She seized Lucas’s arm, her words tumbling out in a rush.

“Lucas, why are you still hung up on this bitch? End the engagement now!”

His hand reached for me, trembling. He was desperate to ask why.

But I slapped him hard across the face, then burst out of the ward yelling, “Doctor! Someone get the doctor!”

Footsteps thundered as doctors and nurses swarmed in.

My mom was rushed to the emergency room.

Lucas followed behind me, his face twisted with agony and confusion.

“Why did Aunt suddenly collapse? Why did you abort our baby!”

He glared at me, the slap mark still red on his cheek, his voice sharp with accusation.

Why? Because I refused to repeat the tragedy of my past life. Because I didn’t want my child to have a

monster like him for a father.

Eyes blazing, I snatched up everything within reach-a cup, a tissue box, a magazine-and hurled them all at

him.

“Get out! I told you we’re over! You and your mistress stay away from me forever-get out!”

Lucas couldn’t dodge in time; a glass hit him square on the forehead.

Blood streamed down his face. He stared at me in disbelief-never had the once obedient me lashed out like

this.

“Lucas, run! She’s gone crazy!”

Chloe tugged him toward the door, shooting me a venomous look, “I’ll make you pay for this!”

Finally alone, I collapsed to the floor, waiting for news of my mom’s surgery.

Jake, a former comrade of Lucas’s who’d had a falling out with him not long ago, suddenly sent me a video.

“Elena, you’re a good person. I can’t let you keep being lied to-you deserve the truth.”

A cold sense of foreboding washed over me. My hands trembled as I fumbled to open the video file.

In the video, a man grinned at Lucas, “How does it feel to get what you wanted?”

Lucas’s face oozed satisfaction, his tone lecherous,

“Never thought she’d be that gullible. Told her I was drugged, and she bought it hook, line and sinker. Cried her eyes out a few times, then forgave me just like that.”

“High school virgins are pure, and she’s got a great body. You should find one to play with too.”

My head exploded, my heart feeling like it was splitting in two.

So he’d never been drugged. He’d raped me on purpose.

I was only nineteen then. Waking up, I’d been shattered completely.

I locked myself in a dark room for half a month, refusing to come out.

He was already a major general by then. I dared not call the police or speak up-I’d begged him to leave me

alone.

Instead, he’d show up at my school in his flashy SUV, making a spectacle of himself.

I’d tried to walk away, but he’d followed slowly behind, honking the horn relentlessly.

The strange looks from teachers and classmates weighed on me like a mountain.

Trapped, I’d climbed into his car.

I’d told him seriously never to come to my school again.

He’d just laugh, a teasing, threatening sound. “Be my girlfriend, and maybe I’ll stop.”

I’d begged, screamed, thrown tantrums-yet he’d refused to budge.

Now I saw the truth: this “relationship” had been a premeditated trap from the start.

Chills and fever washed over me in waves. I hugged myself tightly, sobbing uncontrollably.
