He Delayed Our Wedding 9 Times, I Won’t Wait for the 10th Chapter 06 (Continue)
After having his wound dressed, Lucas’s heart still raced wildly.
The thought of the baby made the corners of his eyes burn.
He stood up, intent on going back for answers, when a pair of arms suddenly snaked around his waist.
Chloe’s voice sounded pitiful, “Lucas, are you really going back to that bitch? She almost killed me and hit
you too! Let’s not look for her anymore, okay? She’s already aborted the baby-she can’t pester you now.”
“She wasn’t the one clinging to me.”
Lucas’s voice was soft, but he pulled her hands away firmly.
Looking at Chloe’s stunned expression, he said calmly,
“Marriage was my idea, not hers. I’ve given you more than enough. Don’t ask for what isn’t yours.”
That was all he had to say. Unwilling to hurt her, he turned to leave.
Chloe refused to give up, lunging forward and clinging to him,
“I don’t want anything else! I just feel wronged for you. Shouldn’t she have asked for your opinion before
aborting the baby? Instead, she made the decision alone and even had the nerve to hit you-I just feel bad for
you.”
The dampness of her tears seeped through his shirt. Lucas stiffened, a low sigh escaping him.
He was about to comfort her when something suddenly dawned on him,
“Why did you go see Margaret? Didn’t I give you money for the necklace and tell you to stay away from
Elena?”
Chloe froze, twisting her fingers nervously,
“I came to apologize to Elena. It was my fault for making a scene at her workplace… But I never expected her
to hit me first…”
As she spoke, she started crying again.
Lucas felt a twinge of sympathy, but quickly pressed on, “Then why did Margaret collapse? What did you say to her?”
Chloe stared at him with wide, innocent eyes, her voice trembling.
“I don’t know! Maybe she got scared when she saw Elena and me fighting. It’s all my fault-I shouldn’t have gone there without warning…”
She dissolved into fresh tears, leaving Lucas frustrated and unsettled.
He didn’t comfort her further. Following his gut, he headed straight back to the operating room.
But the hallway outside was empty. His heart skipped a beat; he grabbed a nurse anxiously,
The nurse hesitated, her expression somber. “I’m sorry. Ms. Margaret didn’t make it. Please accept our
condolences.”
A sharp ringing filled Lucas’s ears.
He dragged his legs-heavy as lead-toward the mortuary.
Chloe chased after him, pestering him with pleas,
“Lucas, why waste your time on someone who doesn’t care? Elena’s never had good intentions! Let’s go home-I’m freezing, I didn’t bring a coat, ahh-”
Lucas shoved her hard. She crashed into the wall with a thud.
Confused and scared, Chloe burst into tears, “Lucas, why are you being so rough with me?”
“Margaret’s dead.”
Chloe’s face paled instantly, but she quickly snapped back, trembling violently,
“What does that have to do with me? She collapsed on her own! I never laid a hand on her! Is Elena trying to
pin this on me?”
“I’m so wronged-waahhh!”
Chloe threw a tantrum on the floor, screaming and kicking like a child.
But several military police officers approached, their expressions stern,
“Are you Chloe Bennett? You’re under arrest on suspicion of assault. Come with us to MP headquarters.”
Chloe froze, panic setting in. She looked to Lucas for help,
“Lucas, save me! I’m being framed-you know that!”
But no matter how she screamed, Lucas’s expression remained completely blank.
