He Gave Everyone a Key but Me Chapter 11
He wasn’t carrying an umbrella.
Within seconds, the rain had soaked through his hair and shirt.
He looked even worse than he had a few days ago.
Dark stubble covered his jaw, and deep shadows sat beneath his eyes.
“Claire.”
He stopped in front of me. His voice was so hoarse it was barely audible.
I took a step back, widening the distance between us.
“What are you doing here now?”
Logan didn’t answer.
Instead, he pulled a document folder from inside his jacket.
It was warm from being pressed against his chest.
With trembling hands, he held it out to me.
“This is the deed to the new house.”
There was a pleading note in his voice.
“I transferred it into your name.”
“And this.”
He opened a velvet jewelry box.
Inside was a diamond ring, dazzling beneath the lights.
“It’s the one you used to stare at in that display window.”
“I bought it.”
Clutching the deed and the ring, he looked like a drowning man holding onto the last piece of driftwood.
“Claire, look.”
“Everything you wanted, I’ve given it to you.”
“Can we start over?”
“I’ll do whatever you want. I’ll come home on time every day. I’ll never see Tinsley again.”
The words spilled out in a rush, hope flickering desperately in his eyes.
I looked at the deed, then at the diamond ring.
I felt nothing.
No anger, no gratitude. Just peace.
Meeting his eyes, I spoke softly.
“Too late.”
Logan’s entire body stiffened.
“No.”
He shook his head frantically.
“It’s not too late.”
“If you want it, it’s never too late.”
I slowly shook my head.
“When you bought that ring…”
“Did you know my ring size?”
Logan froze.
As his eyes moved from the ring to my hand, his lips trembled.
No answer came.
“You didn’t.”
I stated the truth calmly.
“Just like you didn’t know I was allergic to mangoes.”
“Or that I can’t comfortably wear high heels.”
“You always thought that as long as you gave me something, I should be grateful.”
“Logan, I don’t hate you.”
I watched the color fade from his face.
“I just don’t love you anymore.”
Not hate.
That was far worse because it meant he had been completely removed from my emotional world.
He no longer had the power to make me feel anything at all.
The rain grew heavier.
It hammered against the glass canopy above the hotel entrance.
