He Gave Everyone a Key but Me Chapter 10
His voice was hoarse. There was even a slight tremor in it.
“The invitations have already gone out. Do you think I’m joking?”
I looked at him calmly.
“Why?” Logan grabbed his head in frustration.
“Because I didn’t give you a key?”
“Because of Tinsley?”
“Claire, I fired her! I’ll never see her again, okay?”
“Stop being mad at me and come home!”
He still thought I was angry, and that this was all a tantrum.
“Cut the fake devotion, Logan!”
Amanda stormed out of the hotel and pulled me behind her.
Pointing straight at him, she unleashed years of anger.
“For five years, every business dinner you took her to, you treated her like she was invisible!”
“You bought Tinsley designer bags worth thousands of dollars, and gave Claire a plastic ring!”
“Did you even know she’s allergic to mangoes?”
“Did you know she just had surgery a few days ago?”
“You know nothing!”
“Because the only person you’ve ever cared about is yourself!”
Amanda’s words landed like hammer blows. One after another.
The color drained from Logan’s face.
“I…”
He tried to defend himself but discovered he had nothing to say.
“I love Claire.”
The words came out as a whisper, almost as if he were trying to convince himself.
“I just…”
“I just thought she was different.”
“I thought she’d never leave me.”
“That’s exactly why you deserved to lose her.” Amanda let out a cold laugh.
Logan suddenly lifted his head, a flash of desperation crossing his eyes.
“No.”
“I can’t let you marry him.”
He turned and charged toward the hotel entrance.
Just then, a black Rolls-Royce pulled up to the curb.
Kevin stepped out.
Dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit, he looked composed, elegant, and untouchable.
He walked straight toward Logan and handed him a document.
“Mr. Mercer.”
Kevin’s voice wasn’t loud, yet it carried undeniable authority.
“At two o’clock this afternoon, you were supposed to attend the final Series C funding negotiations at the Sterling Grand Hotel.”
“If you force your way inside today…”
He paused, then met Logan’s eyes.
“I guarantee your company’s cash flow will collapse tomorrow.”
Logan froze.
His gaze dropped to the document and his pupils contracted sharply.
It was from his largest investor, a company owned by Kevin’s family.
The reality of it wrapped around him like invisible chains, holding him exactly where he stood.
He looked at me, then at the document.
Finally, his shoulders slumped, but he didn’t leave.
He stood there as Kevin calmly took the document back.
The madness in his eyes slowly faded, leaving behind something far worse.
It was despair.
“You’re threatening me?”
The words scraped out through clenched teeth.
Kevin looked at him calmly.
“I’m simply stating a fact.”
“Adults have to live with the consequences of their choices.”
Then Kevin turned around.
As naturally as breathing, he took my hand.
“The wind’s picking up.”
“Let’s go inside.”
His palm was warm and steady. The kind of warmth that made people feel safe.
I didn’t pull away. I let him hold my hand as we turned toward the hotel entrance.
“Claire Gibson!”
Logan shouted after us.
For the first time, the certainty and arrogance was gone. Only panic remained.
“Do you really…” His voice cracked.
“Do you really not want me anymore?”
I didn’t turn around or stop walking.
The doors slowly closed behind us and his voice disappeared on the other side.
The engagement party preparations went smoothly.
Kevin handled everything flawlessly, so all I had to do was attend menu tastings and choose guest favors.
Everything moved forward exactly as planned until the night before the engagement party.
I had just finished confirming the final event details at the hotel when a light rain began to fall.
Kevin had gone down to the parking garage to get the car.
I stood beneath the hotel entrance canopy waiting for him.
Suddenly, a black sedan screeched to a stop at the bottom of the steps.
The door flew open and Logan jumped out.
