He Lent Her My Cullinan, I Canceled His Family’s Cards Chapter 06

“Juliette, please listen to me. There’s nothing going on between Lindsay and me.”

Nicholas looked panicked as he tried to explain.

“She’s just a young girl, fresh out of school. I’m her boss—looking after her is part of the job.”

“And besides, getting her driving skills up benefits the company.”

“Once she learns how to drive, she can come with me to business dinners.”

“She can help build client relationships and support negotiations.”

“We’ll close more deals and make more money. Then you can buy whatever you want.”

I laughed. “Nicholas, aren’t you embarrassed saying that out loud?”

I looked at him as if he were a fool.

“You’ll make more money so I can buy whatever I want?”

“What you make in a month’s a drop in the bucket compared to what Ashford Bank earns.”

“You think I’m stupid enough to buy that crap?”

I reached out and lifted his chin.

“Sure, you’ve got a face that’s easy on the eyes, a body that’s more than decent.”

“And even in bed, you’ve always been more than satisfactory.”

Nicholas went still.

My eyes met his. “But men with your looks and your… assets are a dime a dozen.”

“Do you know why I chose you?”

For the first time, genuine fear appeared in his eyes. “Why?”

“Because you were obedient.” My voice was calm.

“You always did exactly what I asked. You never pushed back and never argued.”

“I like men who know how to listen.”

“That’s why you were qualified to become my husband.”

The color drained from Nicholas’s face.

I took a step closer.

“But lately, you’ve stopped taking me seriously.”

“You’ve even started opposing me for Lindsay’s sake.”

“Nicholas, have you forgotten how you got where you are today?”

His face went pale.

“Juliette, I know I messed up. I’ll be more careful from now on. Please don’t be angry with me.”

His voice trembled. “I love you. I don’t want a divorce.”

I let out a cold laugh. “Drop your act.”

I looked at him without a trace of emotion.

“This isn’t about whether you want me—it’s that I don’t want you anymore. This divorce’s happening.”

I turned to the bodyguards. “Let him go.”

Then my men released Nicholas.

I took the divorce papers and tossed them against his chest.

“Read them. If you don’t see any problems, sign.”

Nicholas flipped through the document while muttering under his breath.

“Half of everything I own gets split, but everything you own stays yours. How is that fair?”

I almost laughed. “What’s unfair about it?”

“Everything I own was acquired before marriage.”

“I’m only dividing assets accumulated during our marriage.”

“Besides, do you have any idea how much money your family has spent over the years?”

“The fact that I’m not demanding they pay it back is already generous.”

I paused. “And your company—without Ashford family backing, would you have ever made it this far?”

Beads of sweat formed on Nicholas’s forehead.

“Honestly, I couldn’t care less about your pocket change.”

“But if I just leave it all to you, that’d be letting you off way too easy.”

“Juliette, I really don’t want a divorce.”

I folded my arms. “It’s not up to you. It’s up to me.”

Nicholas gripped the pen tightly.

Yet no matter how long he stared at the signature line, he couldn’t bring himself to sign.

Suddenly, Lindsay cried out. “Mrs. Drake, I’ll take responsibility for what I did!”

Everyone turned toward her.

“I’ll pay back the entire three million.”

“I’ll write you an IOU right now. Even if it kills me, I’ll pay every cent back.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”

Well, that was a first.

“Since you’ve got so much backbone, I’ll let you prove it.”

I placed a sheet of paper in front of her. “Go ahead.”

Without hesitation, Lindsay quickly wrote out an IOU and signed her name onto it.

“I’ll have it all paid back within a month.”

Even Nicholas looked shocked.

“Lindsay, where are you going to get three million dollars?”

She forced a smile. “Don’t worry about me, Mr. Drake. I’ll figure it out.”

I stared at her. “You aren’t planning to run away, are you?”

My voice was calm, but the warning behind it was unmistakable.

“The Ashford family’s reach extends across the globe.”

“Even if you fled to the other side of the planet, I’d hunt you down.”

To my surprise, Lindsay didn’t look worried at all.

She actually sounded confident. “I’m not running. I guarantee I’ll have the money paid back within a month.”

The confidence in her voice caught my attention.

I smiled slightly. “Fine. You can go.”
