I Picked Up a College Guy, Then My Mafia Ex Caught Me Chapter 14
The security system had sent him an alert. He had wrapped up his project early and flown back by helicopter, terrified he would be too late.
I took in his disheveled state, and the small gift box in his hand.
“What’s that?”
His lips pressed together. “Your birthday’s next week. Got you something.”
I opened it. An emerald tennis bracelet. I had seen it before in a luxury magazine—artisan-crafted, auction-highlighted. The stones glowed even in the dim lighting.
What girl didn’t love something that sparkled?
Growing up, no one ever remembered my birthday. I would just watch my cousins unwrap their presents.
Dominic’s jaw tightened. “If you don’t like it, toss it. I didn’t think much about it.”
“I didn’t say I didn’t like it.”
I put it away carefully.
When I turned back, he was staring at me.
My hair was still wet. Water droplets trickled down my collarbone, disappearing into my robe. I tightened the sash. “You should leave. I’m going to bed.”
“We’re married. We share a bed.”
He pushed past me into the room. His tall frame loomed over me. Something reminded me of Victoria’s divorce. “Did you see her in Crestwood?”
“See who?”
“Victoria. She’s getting divorced. Aren’t you going to do something?”
“What’s it got to do with me?” He frowned. “Are you asking because you want me out of the way so you can go after Ethan?”
“That’s ridiculous. I don’t like Ethan.”
He scoffed. “Right. With all the men around you, I’m sure he doesn’t stand a chance.”
His sarcasm threw me.
But why had he suddenly changed? Wasn’t he always obsessed with her?
“What about all those times you protected Victoria?”
“I was never into her. It was strictly business.”
I blinked. What did he mean, never?
