I Played His Lover’s Husband Chapter 01
Every time my fiancé strayed, I’d seek out his lover’s husband as retaliation.
We were accomplices, each covering for the other.
In a twisted way, it was almost like we had a respectful, peaceful arrangement.
Until one day, he got involved with a younger girl.
“This time, don’t go find her husband to put on a show with you.”
“She’s timid. Her husband’s possessive and crazy about her. If he finds out, she’ll probably fall apart crying.”
“And once a girl like that starts crying, she won’t stop. I don’t have the patience to deal with it.”
“So if you need to act out your jealousy, take it up with me.”
The words lodged in my throat.
Why hadn’t he said that sooner?
I had already crossed the line.
The man I’d gotten close to was pressuring me to end the engagement and give him an official place in my life.
The day I brought the Termination of Engagement Agreement home, I walked in on Dominic Harrington and his latest hookup together in bed.
I truly hadn’t meant to.
After all, no matter how wildly Dominic played around before, he had never brought anyone home.
Aurora Blake’s skin was pale and flawless, like porcelain.
Her eyes went wide with panic and embarrassment.
She pulled the thin blanket tightly around herself, looking young and painfully vulnerable.
She was nothing like the sultry, provocative types Dominic usually went for.
Dominic lit a cigarette, watching her flee upstairs wrapped in the blanket with clear amusement in his eyes.
“You saw it yourself,” he said, his tone indifferent.
“She’s timid. She can’t handle being scared.”
“So this time, don’t go looking for her husband to put on another performance with you.”
“Her husband’s possessive and crazy about her. If he finds out, she’ll absolutely fall apart.”
“And once a girl like that starts crying, she won’t stop. I don’t have the patience to deal with it.”
“So if you need to act out your jealousy, take it up with me.”
I paused, my lips parting slightly, but in the end, I said nothing.
I just pulled the envelope from my bag and handed it to him.
“Take a look. If anything seems unfair, we can talk about it.”
Dominic studied my face before accepting the envelope.
For a fleeting second, something almost tender flickered across his cold features.
“No matter how amusing she is, she’s just a plaything. Not worth getting upset over.”
I froze for a second before realizing he had mistaken my hesitation for heartbreak. I almost laughed.
“Actually…” I started.
A sharp crash of shattering glass came from upstairs, followed by a short, helpless cry.
Dominic’s expression changed instantly. He stood and headed upstairs without hesitation.
“Leave it there. I’ll read it later.”
The urgency in his stride as he went to soothe his little lover made what I was about to say feel completely irrelevant.
What I’d meant to say was-I was here to call it off.
