I Played His Lover’s Husband Chapter 08

I Played His Lover’s Husband Chapter 08

Dominic left in a hurry.

He left behind only few words-casual, assured, utterly certain of my obedience.

“Wait for me.”

I’d waited five years for a playboy to come home.

I didn’t want to wait anymore. I was done waiting.

By the time I finished work and returned home, it was already dinner time.

The moment I pushed open the door, the warm aroma of food drifted gently toward me.

The dishes on the table were all foods I had loved as a child.

Rhett was wearing an apron, which somehow made his broad shoulders and narrow waist stand out even

more.

A faint flush colored his sharp, rebellious features.

“I tried learning some dishes from your mother’s hometown, but I’m not sure I got them right.”

“Try it and tell me what you think…”

Young rich heir Rhett, who spent his days racing cars and bikes, had traded the track for the kitchen-for me.

I took a bite. “It’s good.”

The compliment immediately lit up his face. He looked ridiculously pleased with himself.

After dinner, Rhett covered my eyes and told me he had a birthday gift for me.

Over the years, as the Harrington empire expanded, Dominic’s gifts grew increasingly expensive-and

increasingly hollow.

I’d long since outgrown the age of being thrilled by presents.

But when I opened my eyes, I went still.

In front of me was the familiar emerald heirloom jewelry set I hadn’t seen in years.

It was my mother’s. Her keepsake-sold off in secret by my stepmother.

Because of its extraordinary value, the set had scattered across top auction houses all over the world.

Even I had eventually given up trying to track them all down. It was just too hard.

So how had him managed to find them all, one by one?

Rhett panicked, fumbling to wipe my tears away. “Estelle, don’t cry.”

The flustered look on his face made me laugh through my tears.

I leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss against his lips. “Thank you.”

Rhett froze. Like some innocent college boy who’d never been kissed, his entire face went scarlet.

The next second, he pulled me down onto the sofa and kissed me hard.

I lost myself in the intensity of it, barely able to keep up with him.

I lost all sense of time before another wave crashed over me-my toes curling, mind going blank.

At that exact moment, blue fireworks exploded outside the windows.

From the twenty-eighth floor, the entire city lit up beneath us.

The phone beside the bed kept vibrating nonstop, but I had no attention left to spare for it.

Naturally, I never saw the countless missed calls from Dominic. Or the message he had just sent.

[The fireworks were my apology. Stop being mad at me.]

[Still hiding from me? Fine. I’ll let myself in.]

Rhett pressed a careful kiss against my trembling eyelashes.

Just then, from the front door came the sound of the keypad-someone was entering the passcode.
