I Played His Lover’s Husband Chapter 09
My body went rigid right away.
From the door came the automated chime, “Password incorrect.”
Besides me, only one person knew the passcode to my private apartment-Dominic.
For the past five years, the door code had always been our engagement anniversary. It had never changed.
Thankfully, after Rhett moved in, he stubbornly insisted that I change it to our dating anniversary instead.
I exhaled, relieved.
Not that I was afraid of Dominic walking in on us-I just had no desire to give an outsider a front-row seat to my private life.
But then the sound of the keypad echoed again.
That surprised me a little. Dominic never did the same pointless thing twice.
And sure enough, the same cold, automated voice followed, “Password incorrect.”
The footsteps receded, fading into silence. Then my phone began to vibrate violently.
I had no intention of answering it, but a hand clamped around my wrist.
My eyes met Rhett’s, dark and intense, and my heart lurched.
Most of the time, he came across as easygoing and harmless.
But in private, he had a much more intense side.
Rhett stared at me. “Don’t answer his calls.”
Then he added stubbornly, “And don’t you dare think about him, either.”
I caught the childishness hidden in his tone.
Unable to hold back, I laughed softly. “Okay.”
Rhett leaned down and kissed me again.
When I woke up the next day, it was already afternoon.
Since I hadn’t gone in, I checked the work group chat first.
That was when I realized the brand campaign had been quietly relaunched.
I clicked onto the brand’s official site. Every photo and video of Aurora had been pulled. Gone.
Right on cue, Dominic’s message popped up.
[Change the password back.]
[Call me when you’re done sulking.]
Even now, he still thought I was only throwing a tantrum.
I let out a cold laugh and replied.
[For engagement termination and property division matters, contact my lawyer.]
[There’s nothing else to discuss.]
Then I casually blocked him. On everything.
I napped a bit more that afternoon and woke up feeling refreshed.
That evening, I went to my private outdoor pool.
It wasn’t until I was changing into my swimsuit that I saw-my body was covered in red and purple marks.
My skin bruised easily and healed slowly.
That was why I normally never allowed anyone to leave too many marks on me.
But last night, just to coax Rhett, I had let him bite me anywhere he wanted.
Just thinking about it now made my face steam.
Still, no one could get in without my authorization-I felt perfectly at ease slipping into my swimsuit and into
the water.
After two laps, everything ached. I let out a wry laugh and climbed back out.
I’d just settled onto a lounger with a glass of wine when I caught a figure moving toward me out of the corner
of my eye.
Rhett had gone to Velocity Motor Club that afternoon and said he would come by tonight.
Naturally, I assumed it was him. But it wasn’t.
