I Played His Lover’s Husband Chapter 13

In the days that followed, it was as if Dominic had turned over a new leaf.

In the past, he rarely came to the company.

Now, he showed up every single day.

The first thing he did was fire Aurora.

The second was following me straight into the studio.

I had handpicked the new female model myself.

The male model for the watches, however, was still up in the air-auditions were ongoing.

The brand’s target image centered around elegance and flirtatious charm.

At some point, one of the employees quietly muttered, “Honestly… Mr. Harrington would be perfect.”

I said, “Well, we’re not in a rush this time. Mr. Harrington-care to try?”

Dominic was obsessed with watches and had ridiculously expensive taste.

If a watch cost less than a million dollars, he wouldn’t even look at it.

But this time, he simply replied, “Sure.”

Dominic had always been the kind of man who became the scenery wherever he stood.

Naturally, the final shots turned out flawless.

I studied the photos with keen interest, even as praise poured in from all around.

“They look great,” I said leisurely. “But…”

I frowned slightly and spoke clearly enough for everyone to hear.

“This watch line targets young men between twenty and twenty-four.”

“Mr. Harrington’s already thirty-three. Isn’t he a bit… old for this?”

The entire room exchanged awkward glances.

No one had ever dared embarrass Dominic in public before.

His expression froze for a few beats.

Then, smooth as ever, he said, “Miss Montgomery has a point”

The bitterness that had lingered in my chest for years finally eased a little.

I was still smiling when I got back to my office.

Rhett, who’d been absurdly jumpy lately, demanded, “What are you smiling about?”

I leaned over and kissed his eyes lightly

“Just thinking how no matter how much you dress up an old, it’ll never be as fresh as a young one”

The young one blinked, then broke into a grin. “Exactly. And he’s not just old-he’s rotten.”

Rhett showed up at my office daily under the pretense of being my younger cousin.

Naturally, he often ran into Dominic.

Whenever it was just Dominic in the room, Rhett made a point of tugging his collar lower, flashing the

faintest hint of a love bite.

I was oblivious to all of this. All I noticed was that Dominic had started smoking more and more.

One day during a business discussion, I frowned slightly.

“Next time, air yourself out before you come near me.”

Dominic’s hand paused on the documents.

*…I never changed brands. It’s still the one you used to like.”

I didn’t even look up. “I quit.”

Dominic opened his mouth, but nothing came out.

Even so, he kept coming to the office, day after day, never missing a single one.

He endured every ounce of my “payback” as if he welcomed it.

And through it all, he still looked utterly sure of himself. Until one night.

That evening, my meeting ran very late.

Rhett had fallen asleep in my office.

I walked over carefully

Rhett’s looks were all sharp edges and defiance-nothing remotely “cute” about them.

But to me, he was adorable.

I couldn’t help myself. I leaned down and pressed the softest kiss to his forehead.

When I looked up, my eyes met Dominic’s through the doorway.

Not even when I’d smashed that wine glass over his head had he worn this expression.

His eyes were lost, as if the pain had finally cut too deep to bear.
