I Woke Up Seven Years Later And Left My Cheating Husband Chapter 10
A buzzing filled Bennett’s ears, and he froze on the spot.
The news of the divorce had spread everywhere?
It felt as if something had slammed hard into his chest. Bennett clenched both hands into fists, but just as
his temper was about to erupt, he suddenly realized something.
He was the one who had publicized the divorce.
He had been so anxious just now that he had actually forgotten.
Bennett pressed his fingers against his brow in irritation. “I know. Wasn’t I the one who told you to release that statement?”
His assistant froze for a moment, then hurried to explain. “Mr. Ford, that isn’t what I meant. I sent you the link. You’ll understand once you look at it.”
Bennett’s phone chimed, but he did not even glance at it before speaking.
“There’s nothing worth looking at.”
After a pause, Bennett added casually, “She probably went home.”
Claire had no relatives or close friends in D.C. After she left the hospital, Bennett truly could not imagine where else she could have gone.
Most likely, he had gone out yesterday at the exact time she was discharged, so they had simply missed keach other.
His assistant looked as if he wanted to say something, but when he saw the cold sharpness in Bennett’s eyes, he swallowed every word back down.
Only then did Bennett turn and head toward Leo’s hospital room.
But the moment he stepped out of the elevator, the attending physician hurried toward him.
“Mr. Ford, there you are.”
“Your son’s test results are back.”
The doctor handed him a report.
“He has no food allergies. His only allergen is iron. Think carefully. Did he come into contact with anything
made of iron?”
After a pause, the doctor reminded him, “Based on the severity of his reaction, he must have been exposed to a large amount of iron, or he may even have inhaled a large amount of iron powder.”
Inhaled a large amount of iron powder?
Bennett’s confusion only deepened.
Leo was the Ford family’s only child in this generation, and everything he used was the best. Even his tableware was custom-made from sterling silver and solid gold. How could he possibly have come into contact with iron? And iron powder, no less?
Bennett’s gaze drifted darkly toward Mia, who was already asleep in the hospital room.
After a moment of thought, he turned and called his assistant. “Also check the security footage from the house. Find out when Leo came into contact with anything made of iron.”
Two days later, Leo’s allergic reaction had completely cleared, and he was discharged from the hospital.
Bennett brought the child home.
As soon as he stepped through the door, he asked instinctively, “Is Mrs. Ford still asleep?”
The maid froze. “Mrs. Ford? She isn’t home.”
A sharp buzz rang in Bennett’s ears. He stared at her in disbelief. “She still hasn’t come back?”
Claire had been discharged from the hospital, but she had not gone home?
Then where could she have gone?
For once, unease stirred inside Bennett, and countless thoughts raced through his mind.
Had she gone back to the Ford family estate?
But that did not seem likely. Mrs. Ford Sr. had never been particularly close to Claire. After Leo was born, she
liked Claire even less and had privately urged Bennett several times to divorce her, worried that the family’s only grandson would grow up without proper standing and that it would affect him.
But if Claire had not gone to the estate, where else could she be?
Was she staying at a hotel?
Announcing the divorce from Claire had only been a stalling tactic.
If she had not exposed the secret first, why would he have had to resort to that?
In the end, she had brought this on herself. So why was she the one getting angry?
The more Bennett thought about it, the more agitated and irritated he became. He immediately took out his phone and sent Claire a message.
Bennett: [Where are you?]
But he waited for a long time and received no reply.
The unease in Bennett’s heart grew heavier. Almost unconsciously, he scrolled back through their chat history.
He would not have noticed if he had not looked. But once he did, he realized that the last time Claire had sent him a message first was already a month ago.
Up until a month ago, Claire would text him every day right on schedule around lunchtime, saying good afternoon and asking what he had eaten and whether he had eaten properly.
That was because whenever Bennett threw himself into work, he would always forget to eat. Over time, he developed stomach problems that often left him drenched in cold sweat from the pain. Once, he had even been rushed to the hospital with stomach bleeding.
After that, Claire developed the habit of making him take a photo of his lunch and send it to her.
Bennett had tried to weasel out of it a few times, saying, “I was too busy to take a picture.” Claire had gotten angry and said, “So that’s what you used to do? You were too busy to eat?”
“If you don’t want me looking after you, then we can split up. After we split up, you can do whatever you want, and I’ll never care again.”
But now, she had not asked about his lunch for an entire month.
Bennett finally began to panic.
He immediately called his assistant. “Find Claire’s whereabouts. Check whether she’s staying at a hotel.”
Then he headed straight to the Ford family estate.
At one in the morning, Bennett pushed the door open and woke both Mr. Ford Sr. and Mrs. Ford Sr.
Mrs. Ford Sr. was still groggy with sleep, but her face lit up when she saw him.
“Bennett? Why are you here so late?”
Bennett immediately said, “Claire-”
Before he could finish, Mrs. Ford Sr.’s brows snapped together, and she cut him off. “Don’t mention her to me.
Just hearing her name makes me furious.”
“I was kind enough to help her finalize the divorce paperwork, and she turned right around and checkmated
Now everyone is questioning Leo’s status. How is he supposed to become the Ford family’s rightful next heir after this?”
Bennett froze. “What did you say? Divorce paperwork?”
“You didn’t know?” Mrs. Ford Sr. froze as well. “Have you not seen the news lately?”
Bennett suddenly remembered something.
With fumbling hands, he finally opened the link his assistant had sent him.
