I Woke Up Seven Years Later And Left My Cheating Husband Chapter 18

Only then did Bennett learn what had happened during that time.

After he had been taken to the hospital for surgery, Claire had paid his medical bills and immediately contacted the Ford family.

For the first few days, she and Preston had taken turns looking after him. Only when Mrs. Ford Sr. arrived did the two of them finally breathe a sigh of relief.

“The Ford family is in complete chaos right now,” Mrs. Ford Sr. said with a heavy sigh, looking utterly frazzled. “One post from that woman Claire sent our stock tumbling, and now she’s left you unconscious in a hospital bed in a foreign country. Bennett, are you really going to abandon the entire Ford family over one woman? When exactly are you coming home to take charge?”

Bennett lowered his eyes. “Tomorrow.”

“I know you and Claire were deeply in love, but she’s already… Wait. What did you say?”

Mrs. Ford Sr.’s anxious voice stopped instantly.

“You’re coming home?”

“Yes.” Bennett closed his eyes wearily. “Someone has to handle the Ford family’s affairs.”

Mrs. Ford Sr. could hardly hide her joy. “Then your wedding with Mia…”

“I won’t marry her.”

Bennett opened his eyes and said each word clearly.

“Having Leo with her was my mistake.”

“And mistakes should be corrected, not covered up.”

That night, Ford Group’s official website back in the States released a statement.

Bennett formally responded to the rumors about his illegitimate son and admitted to his affair.

At the end, he wrote this:

[I know nothing I say now can undo what I’ve done. When you make a mistake, you should own it and take the consequences. But I still want to say this to you one last time.]

[I’m sorry, Claire.]

“What, feeling soft-hearted?”

Her aunt’s teasing voice pulled Claire’s drifting thoughts back.

“He not only admitted his mistake, but he also nearly lost his life protecting you. It would be normal if you felt a little soft hearted

Claire paused The spirit that had always floated beside Bennett suddenly surfaced in her mind

Yes she had been able to see him.

She also knew that he had been provoking Bennett into killing Preston.

What surprised her was that Bennett had chosen to save her instead.

Claire’s feelings were complicated, too tangled to describe.

But there was one thing she knew with absolute clarity.

“Whether I feel soft-hearted or not, there is no possibility left between me and him.” Claire smiled helplessly “Maybe he really does regret it now, but the mistake has already been made. It can’t be repaired.

“The bond between us was destined to end the moment he betrayed me.”

In the courtyard not far away, a figure flashed past.

Claire’s heart jumped, and for a second, she almost thought it was the spirit who had come back from years in the future.

To her relief, the figure she saw disappearing into the darkness was familiar.

It was the Bennett of this world, the Bennett who had changed.

So she withdrew her gaze and walked upstairs calmly.

“Aunt, I’m going to change. Preston asked me to dinner later.”

Her aunt smiled teasingly. “Claire, don’t fall too hard this time.”

Claire smiled and said nothing more.

Behind the wall, Bennett pressed himself tightly against the cold, rough surface. It felt as if something tiny had nipped at his heart, leaving behind a faint ache.

At that moment, he suddenly realized that he was not in as much pain anymore.

So pain was something a person could slowly grow used to.

He did not stay there for too long.

A day later, Bennett returned to D.C.

The first thing he did was visit Mia, who was still locked in the basement.

She had already been tortured beyond recognition. The moment she saw him, her eyes lit up.

“Mr. Ford, you’re here. Did you come to save me?”

Please let me go I know I was wrong From now on, I’ll never show up again I’ll never bother you or Ms Spow

Bennett merely kicked her aside, his expression cold.

Send her to a psychiatric facility.”

Keep her under watch. Don’t let her bother the little heir or…”

That name circled on the tip of his tongue for several seconds. In the end, he swallowed it back and said nothing more.

It was as if saying that name alone was enough to drain every last bit of strength from his body.

Three years passed.

At a dinner party, Bennett unexpectedly ran into an old acquaintance.

He instinctively looked behind Preston, only to find that Claire was not with him.

“Looking for Claire?” Preston raised an eyebrow slightly. “I heard Mr. Ford has been living like a monk these past few years, with no women around him at all. Don’t tell me you still haven’t gotten over Claire.”

Bennett withdrew his gaze, his eyes calm. “That has nothing to do with you.”

Preston sighed. “She and I broke up.”

Bennett froze.

Preston shrugged and said helplessly, “She said she never wanted to be tied down by marriage again, so we parted on good terms. Oh, and this is my wedding invitation. If you have time, Mr. Ford, you’re welcome to come.”

Bennett opened the invitation and saw the name of another woman written inside.

“She…” Bennett started to speak, then stopped.

“She’s seeing a cute younger guy now. I heard he’s only in his early twenties. Honestly, she’s living more freely than either of us,” Preston said with a teasing smile.

“But a few days ago, she called me and said the younger guy asked her to make things official She’s getting ready to break up with him too.”

“Thinking about it carefully, the only person she ever truly wanted to spend the rest of her life with was probably you.”

It felt as if something slammed hard into Bennett’s heart.

But very quickly, he came back to himself.

He truly had once possessed Claire’s most sincere, passionate, and reckless love.
