My Boyfriend Faked His Death, So I Married Someone Else Chapter 06

Kendra didn’t recognize him. “I remember a Dylan Cross from our class… but he was really fat?”

“Lost the weight. Otherwise I wouldn’t have had the nerve to chase her.” Dylan looked at me and mouthed eat slowly.

I smiled and nodded.

My stomach’s bad. I have to chew slowly or it hurts.

Dylan never forgets to remind me.

But Kendra was right. Back then, Dylan was huge. He sat in the last row for a whole semester because the front seats were too narrow.

We reconnected last year. By then, he’d already lost a lot of weight.

“You two are married?” Carter asked, frowning.

“Pretty much. Wedding’s next year. We’re doing it in Hawaii.” Dylan smiled.

I’d said yes to his proposal recently.

Wedding’s set for January. Hawaii in winter is warm.

We chose Hawaii because I used to love watching Jurassic Park. Wanted to visit the filming locations.

And I’d seen photos online—blue sky, ocean, breathtaking.

I thought, if I can get married somewhere that beautiful, I’ll finally forget the pain.

“Hawaii?” Kendra scoffed, smug. “Do you know how much a wedding in Hawaii costs?”

“Avery couldn’t afford it if she sold fish for three years.” She flipped her hair.

“Oh, don’t worry about that. I’ve got money,” Dylan said casually.

Kendra looked him up and down. Didn’t say anything. Her eyes laughed at him.

They didn’t believe I could land a good husband.

After they left, I held the lunch bag. Dylan sat next to me on the bloody, fish-scale-covered floor.

“You didn’t ask me what happened with Carter,” I said.

“It’s in the past, isn’t it?” Dylan smiled.

I only found out after we got together that Dylan comes from serious money.

But that’s not why I said yes.

Being with Dylan just feels… easy.

He’s like a human sun. When he smiles, I can’t help smiling back.

Yeah. It’s in the past.

Honestly, when we first got together, I still thought about Carter.

Back when I didn’t know he was alive. I felt guilty. And resentful.

I really thought he died because of me.

Now I finally see the truth. None of it was my fault.
